Our first-hand experience has taught us that the more people who are informed about and involved during the project planning process, the more likely it is that the resulting plan will be meaningful and practical for the whole community.
Wangari tells us that strong women are a gift to the family and the societies they live in. Men have too often been socialized to silence and dismiss outspoken and strong women. We honor these women, and encourage all men to empower women.

Wangari Maathai reflects on confronting gender based discrimination and the role of an African woman. In this clip, she recalls the moment she realized she would have to compete with men on the basis of their gender, and not their capacity. #wangari80#InternationalWomensDay
Wangari understood the differences between reacting to symptoms and responding to causes. She went beyond temporary fixes that were the equivalent of a bandaid for a broken bone, and instead grew sustainable solutions that addressed the root of the problem. #wangari80
