I am deeply saddened by the devastating floods in Nuristan province. My heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost loved ones, and my thoughts are with those still missing, injured or displaced.
At this very painful time, the people in Nuristan urgently need solidarity and support.
#EarthDay reminds us: protecting the planet means protecting people.
Afghanistan faces drought and hardship, while restrictions, especially on women, make it harder to respond and care for their communities.
If climate action is real, it cannot be selective. #ClimateJustice
On this International #SnowLeopardDay, we must protect what little innocence remains in the land of ruins. 🐾🇦🇫
Afghanistan’s snow leopards in Pamir highlands are rare and vital to our mountain ecosystems, now face extinction amid in absence of governance, climate change and unchecked exploitation challenges. Their survival mirrors our own struggle for balance and peace. 🐾 🐆

Appeal for Devastating Floods in Baghlan Province and Northern Afghanistan
The Coordination Council of the Diplomatic & Consular Missions of I. R. of Afghanistan expresses its profound sorrow and concern over the recent flash floods that have caused disaster in the northern provinces.
The devastating floods, have tragically claimed the lives of more than 300 individuals and resulted in the destruction of over 1000 homes. We convey our deepest condolences to the
families who have lost their loved ones and to all those affected by this natural disaster.
These floods, occurring amidst a dire humanitarian situation in the affected areas underscoring the urgent need for swift and comprehensive response measures. While we acknowledge the vital role played by the World Food Program (WFP) and other international
organizations in addressing the immediate needs of survivors, we urgently appeal for international solidarity and support in providing assistance to the affected communities.
We call upon our global partners, humanitarian organizations, and concerned stakeholders to join
hands with us in extending a helping hand to those in dire need.
We also urge international donors to provide assistance to the communities aimed at preventing future disasters, considering Afghanistan's vulnerability to the climate crisis.
Together, we can mitigate the suffering of the affected families and help with the relevant recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Significant destruction & loss of lives have followed the catastrophic floods in Northern 🇦🇫. Country's vulnerability to climate change, coupled with weak governance & lack of service provision, exacerbate these challenges. This region urgently requires international assistance.
Earth Day 2024
On this #EarthDay2024, April 22nd, we are reminded of the pressing global need to foster environmental stewardship and education.
However, in Afghanistan, the situation presents unique challenges that underscore the critical intersection of environmental responsibility and human rights.
Under Taliban rule, the country faces severe restrictions in education, particularly for girls who are outright banned from continuing their studies, while the curriculum for boys severely lacks comprehensive environmental education.
This situation not only undermines the potential for sustainable development but also perpetuates a cycle of ignorance towards environmental degradation.
The international community must advocate for inclusive education as a fundamental right and as a cornerstone for environmental awareness.
Ensuring that both boys and girls in Afghanistan have access to quality education, including environmental science, is crucial for empowering the next generation to tackle pressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss.
On Earth Day, let us renew our commitment to these principles, advocating for a world where every child has the knowledge and opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future.

This #wildfire in Cannich is sending a large smoke plume over Loch Ness. This fire has the potential to be one of Scotland's largest (in the satellite era). It's already approaching 3,000 ha and does not appear to be under control with strong winds. @fire_scot
Today, marks the second day of the Solar New Year, a day when Afghanistan has traditionally opened its schools to all students. However, for the second year in a row, girls are being denied access to education – making Afghanistan the only country in the world where girls are not permitted to attend school.
As history shows, tyranny and totalitarian regimes won’t last.
Hafiz reminds us: “Arrived the glad tidings that grief’s time, shall not remain…”

1,325 ha of land has been afforested, & 133 water reservoirs were built. #IntlForestDay#GenerationRestoration
