One year ago, the slooowwwww DA reached 0, and in less than 10 minutes the project minted out. 🚀

ICYMI, BLONKS are 100% EVM generated, dynamic NFTs whose SVG code changes deterministically when transferred between wallets. Coded by me in ‘22 to reacquaint myself with solidity, originally BLONKS was a collection of 5 smart contracts working together. 🤖

I launched and advertised with ‘no roadmap’, but I did have ideas I wanted to pursue… When I started exploring them, I hit a stumbling block early on when I realized I made a technical oversight in the contract, and for a while I thought my plans were toast. 😐

But, I kept experimenting with Solidity (100x10x1-A coming soon – I just rewrote the contract, again..). After a while, I found a path through my initial oversight! And today I’m announcing the launch of the culmination of many months of behind-the-scenes work: the Shapeshifter upgrade. 🤓

BLONKS were always dynamic, but not as much as they could be and as much as I dreamt they could be. That changes today! With the upgrade, the BLONKS smart contract system expands past the initial 5 contracts, allowing individual owner accounts (and accounts those might be delegated to via @delegatedotxyz) to switch which EVM renderers a BLONKS token uses – on the fly, for FREE. 🔥

This is how the contract system is today, at launch…

It’s actually not very complicated in design, but that URI Shapeshifter contract was quite a technical challenge! The most important things for me though, are that this upgrade for owners is free*, safe*, and fun*! ❤️

*Free: Any transaction on Ethereum costs gas, but there are no additional fees applied to Shapeshifting, and there’s nothing to buy – you already have a BLONKS token, I can’t imagine wanting to dilute the BLONKS brand value (or whatever) by launching separate BLONKS tokens. 1 BLONKS = 1 BLONKS. 🧠

*Safe: The URI contract supports account delegation through @delegatedotxyz. While there’s no 100% truly safe anything, using delegation allows owners to separate their assets from accounts used to act on behalf of those assets. “Mistakes can happen, just hope that if they do, they happen on a hot-wallet.” 🔒

*Fun: C’mon, if you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong, and BLONKS are not serious people. Have you seen them? More importantly, have you seen their new shapeshifter renderings? Here’s a screenshot from the website showing a randomly generated BLONKS and how it would look in each shapeshifter state. 😂

The BLONKS website allows anyone to ping the smart contracts and render tokens in SVG or PNG (PNG is converted client-side, the server only serves the website and communicates with the contracts). The site allows anyone to preview how a token would look if owned by a certain address (BLONKS are dynamic on transfer, remember?), and the site also allows previews of the various shapeshifters and live counts of tokens using them! 🔮

And of course, the site is the place where you set a BLONKS's shapeshifter state (contract enabling at noon Eastern). There are limited slots available in these new shapeshifter states, and of course it's always live. Also, ICYMI I can add more shapeshifters in the future, and I'm planning on some additional fun surprises for BLONKS owners... 🤪

But roadmap? Nope. Enjoy!
