@walkhighlands@Michael18964156 Lunga! Isle of my youth! Camped there on a Grampian schools trip in 1979ish. I was shown how to carry out a proper plant survey, got in my first kayak, saw a pod of Orcas, caught chicken pox, and ended up with a degree in Ecology many moons later. That trip was a life changer
@walkhighlands Thanks, think I’ve just about got over it, 47 years later! Fortunately my hand wasn’t in the mitten at the time… but the loss was hard to take, not helped by my brother and Dad laughing like drains.
@ThisIsChrisx The heel. Or the crust, but the crust is more general and can refer to the outer surface of the whole loaf. The heel refers to the end slices only.
I had three redpolls outside the house this week... I think they were picking up birch seed from the gravel. Lovely birds, but I didn’t manage to get a photo. Anyone else seen them recently?
@townsendoutdoor I bet my species list is very similar to yours (not surprising as we’re just down the road from you) I had 7 different species but didn’t get your numbers as I could only count 11 coal tits at one time! My wrens were in hiding during the hour, otherwise I would have matched you.
