The Junior @nswaecg at Toomelah PS have been hard at work making Christmas meals for their Elders. Students fund-raised to buy the food items for the meals. Thank you to Rohan who assisted with making the food, serving it and delivering the meals to the Elders.
Our senior boys are participating in Bro Speak. We start off discussing what we are grateful for, who is our mob and how do we feel.
We identify our own strengths, the qualities we see in others and what we need to work on. It is also about identifying positive role models.
The bush surrounding our school sports some of the latest cat head’s ever seen. To combat this our Toomelah Public School students had a hands on bike maintenance session. Learning how fix a puncture, oil a chair and how to pop a wheelie 🚲
Connected Communities Strategy has been extended for an additional 10 years. The Strategy embeds Aboriginal perspectives, has a strong focus on partnering with the Aboriginal community, & promotes inter-agency collaboration to improve educational outcomes. https://t.co/EeRNa9z8OF
Wonderful On Country experiences at Toomelah, Boggabilla and Moree recently! A pleasure to see Public Education weighing in so strongly through the Connected Communities Strategy…
Exemplary leadership, valued partnerships & students at the centre. @dizdarm@KathyPowzun@pruecar
K/1 Toomelah PS completed a simple experiment with carnations to explore how living plants need water to grow. The students investigated how the roots of flowers absorbed water & colouring. The colouring helped students see where water traveled in a flower including the petals.
Toomelah PS students, parents & carers came together as a community this week to create Christmas craft for their art lesson. A great community event that fostered relationships, promoted creativity & fine motor skills. Thanks to our staff for facilitating this community project.
How true this is. Kids who have faced deep trauma are often the most difficult to reach. Behaviors such as withdrawal, escape, and defiance are often what comes to surface. It’s easy to take it personally and mishandle the situation. (Been there. 🙋♀️🤦♀️)
While I don’t have the answers on how to handle every situation, I do know this…
Every kid deserves to be treated w/ love, dignity & grace.
EVERY SINGLE. DAY.
No matter what they’ve done.
No matter what they’ve said.
…No matter how they’ve treated you.
When we make it about us, we’ve missed the whole point. Schools don’t exist so that adults can have jobs. Schools exist for kids. And our job is about making every kid feel safe, cared for, and loved…
Every. Single. Day.
Don’t be the person who adds to their trauma by giving up on them. When the moments get hard, reach out to a staff member who is also committed to loving the kid.
Love them enough to reach them.
Love them enough to redirect their pathway.
Love them enough their merchant of hope.
Because the reality is… you may be all they have.
Today is the National Day of Action against Bullying & Violence. All Toomelah PS students completed activities to learn how they can help & care for each other. Stage 2 students made paper chains of the connections they have at school who will help if they experience bullying.
Our Toomelah Public School staff and students love reading. At the moment we are working on our ‘reading stamina’ and have a challenge between all the classes. Who can sustain their learning the longest?
Proud to support and work alongside these passionate, knowledge and innovative leaders in the NSW DoE. Nothing better than hearing from educators to open up the conversation about what's working and where to next. @LydiaJanabi@GregBass18 @MarkDiamondLPS
Am really pumped and excited to speak today as part of the Public Sector Showcase. Our panel topic is Educators Perspective: Exploring the Merits and Pitfalls of Innovative Pedagogical Methods. What do you perceive as the challenges in transforming learning today? #EducationNSW22
Technology, when integrated meaningfully, has the potential to transform the classroom! The wonderful staff and students at Toomelah PS welcomed us for some MLD training! Thank you @GregBass18 for inviting us! #RuralAccessGap@aim_phillips@lindalazenby_@NSWEducation
Today Toomelah PS students and staff were supported by our Digital Learning Advisor’s, who helped unlock the true potential of our new interactive boards. This hands-on technology helps all students learn and most importantly is FUN.
What a surprise to arrive at school today and discover my staff and students collaborated to celebrate ‘World Principal Day’.When you turn up to work and it doesn’t always feel like work you know you have found your calling. Toomelah Public School, greatest school in the universe
