@Holocaust_Irl A beautiful poem read, choir brought me to tears at one point please give my thanks. So much more memorable and touching than Intl memorial day events particularly after last couple years
@Holocaust_Irl My wife asks same, my answer is same. I do find outside Dublin many are more generous, willing to listen; the ignorant and unsurprising hateful comments particularly on X are not always representative. That said general govt and media lack of issue engagement has been shameful.
My op-Ed in today's Irish Times on the current state of antisemitism in Ireland.
"A report on antisemitism in Ireland, released last week by the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland, had some deeply distressing findings: 143 incidents were recorded over a six-month period ending in January 2026.
If this were the UK, with 120 times more Jews, that would represent 17,000 incidents."
PEN America and PEN Sydney condemn any actions that place detainees at risk and urges all parties to the conflict to prioritize civilian safety.
Iranian authorities must immediately guarantee the safety and whereabouts of all detainees and release those imprisoned solely for the peaceful exercise of their right to freedom of expression, in accordance with Iranian provisions such as Resolution 211 and international human rights law.

You have only to read often incredibly vitriolic comments to this and report reposts to recognize the problem; they make for depressing reading. Question is: how do political, media classes respond? The answer is likely also predictable and depressing. Point thus made, sadly.
A report on antisemitic incidents in Ireland, the first of its kind is released by the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland today.
That the JRCI had to compile the report itself is telling; Despite entreaties and warnings for the past two years from the Jewish community, there was no government mechanism forthcoming to monitor or measure antisemitism, unlike 19 other EU countries. This absence is itself a failure to recognize the gravity of a rising problem.
As an organization which promotes awareness of the Holocaust, the worst expression of antisemitism in history and still in living memory, we are deeply concerned by the findings of the report; they clearly demonstrates a growing trend increasingly isolating the Jewish community.
The government urgently needs to put in place a structure to combat antisemitism, taking a whole of society approach. Jews in Ireland must be afforded the same protections as other minorities, indeed no different to those enjoyed by every citizen, resident and visitor.
Antisemitism can and must be made taboo in Ireland; its first victims are Jews, but its second victims are everyone else - Irish citizens who allow antisemitism to grow through ignorance, indifference and apathy. Our attitude to antisemitism ultimately defines who we are as a nation.
HAI fully endorses the statement of the JRCI below.
An epic run: Veteran foreign correspondent Fergal Keane to leave the BBC after 37 years.
And still telling the truth as he departs. Yes 1000 times to this.

I stand in solidarity with Narges Mohammadi, a tireless fighter for women, human rights and freedom in Iran.
She has endured horrific violence in detention and her health is at serious risk. Now, after another sham trial, she faces more than 17 years in prison.
But Narges continues to show extraordinary courage in the face of repression. I stand in support of the movement for justice — for her and for all political prisoners in Iran who have been silenced for speaking out.
Exclusive: The Nobel Committee say they have credible reports that Iranian Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi has been severely beaten in custody. The allegations are graphic and horrific. Nobel chair Jørgen Frydnes calls it “cruel and inhumane treatment, a blatant violation of international human rights law.”

What do words mean during the war? What is it like to write poetry on the front line? What price are Ukrainian people of culture paying today for their freedom to live and create?

🚨URGENT: Islamic Republic Regime committed a massacre
After more than 70 hours of near-total internet shutdown, Narges Foundation is receiving absolutely horrific reports of mass shooting of protesters by Islamic Republic forces that has resulted in at least, we emphasize, at least over two thousand protesters killed.
According to reports Iran’s security forces are using lethal force against protesters nationwide.
This is a sweeping crackdown unfolding under the cover of a digital blackout. Mass arrests are on going as families are seen gathered at centers full of dead bodies looking for the remains of their loved ones.
The world needs to be pay close attention to what the regime in Iran just did.
Thousands killed and injured.
Thousands more rounded up in scale never seen before. Stand with people of Iran.
