@asanso For (iii) the auctioneer could leak the key to a subset hoping to play them off each other. But any one of them could simply use the key to close the auction. Perhaps if the auction closes early it's forfeited; so they risk grieving their own auction.

@asanso Yeah it’s an interesting question. The options I explored were: (i) VDF generated in an Enclave, (ii) each bidder makes their own VDF, (iii) Do nothing. (i) should work but is kinda lame. (ii) adds complexity and deteriorates UX. (iii) has downsides but interesting game theory.

The @TransitFinance hacker literally just went down the list draining directly from user allowances, essentially right out of their wallets. Just about every user had an unlimited allowance set. PSA that max allowances are an anti-pattern.
