Five years of drawing, six months of planning and a few hours of hanging. And now it’s ready. My #FACES#Exhibition at the #AncientHighHouse in #Stafford can be viewed throughout April - open 10-4 Tues-Sat. I’m happy. Really hope you enjoy it too 😊 #WDYT @StaffordMuseums
The first instalment of a new charcoal challenge. In recent years I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a new circle of friends. A group of like-minded lads brought together through the Pretty Green brand. Chris/Craig/Steve. A3. January 2026.
A portrait for a friend who wanted a surprise gift for his partner. Had to research the group @futureislands and lead singer Samuel T Herring, but the more I listened the more I wanted to capture the vocal passion in my mark making. A3 charcoal. December 2025.
Gifted to youngest son and his girlfriend - a charcoal drawing of Chester, their beautiful, bouncing cocker spaniel. Have had the pleasure of his company for the past couple of days and, judging by the licks, he likes the portrait as much as they do! A3 charcoal. November 2025.
Really getting a taste for acrylic portraits now… working in colour is opening up new opportunities. I’ll always have a passion for charcoal, but mark-making with a raft of brushes is very satisfying. Joaquin Phoenix as Joker. A3 canvas panel. March 2024.
Back in 2018 I produced a charcoal portrait of #LiamGallagher so thought I’d revisit him in my new acrylic phase. Probably guilty of over-working this one a touch, but let’s call it experimental mark-making. Enjoying the learning curve. February 2024. Acrylics on A3 panel board.
2024. Time for a change. Acrylic paint on canvas panel. Idris Elba and Jodie Comer. While the likenesses are there or thereabouts, this is more about me learning how to use a new media while still keeping the signature style I’ve developed with charcoal.
The recent Portrait Artist Of The Year series prompted me to try something I haven’t done since my teenage years - a self-portrait! I’ve changed a lot since then, but once I accepted my mid-life imperfections I actually quite enjoyed this!! A3 charcoal. January 2024. #PAOTY
In April 2022 we lost a very special friend. Capturing him in charcoal has been an honour and will hopefully bring happy memories to those who miss him, but will never forget him. Love you Russ 💔
Huge respect and thanks to @talkSPORTDrive Adrian Durham on @talkSPORT for exceptional broadcasting last night. The gracious manner in which he paid the nation’s respects to the passing of Her Majesty was exemplary 🖤
Incredible interview on @theJeremyVine@BBCRadio2 show. Beautifully eloquent lady with the most wonderful life story. Heart strings truly pulled, Jeremy, thanks for broadcasting this one ❤️🙏🏻
Two new drawings originally started in March, but Harry’s Euro goals have prompted their completion. Plus there’s the small matter of finishing them while they’re both still officially @SpursOfficial players! The dynamic duo of @HKane and @hm_sin7. A3 charcoal. July 2021.
