Germany's Chancellor Merz:
We can no longer accept the extraordinarily high levels of sick leave in our companies.
We are abolishing sick leave by telephone and introducing the requirement to submit a medical certificate from the very first day of illness.
We know this is a tough decision. But we can no longer afford this competitive disadvantage caused by prolonged absences from work.
@abaukdiscussion Where is the evidence please, for the claim that @Doug_Lemov developed SLANT "to control racialised children"? Critique of the use of a classroom routine is one thing, but claims about the creator's racisit intent require evidence.
We all did this in that awful 2005-2009 type of time frame and it was indeed a workload nightmare. And when you didn’t do it in your yearly observation (remember those?) you got told that teaching a normal lesson to a class was “inadequate” as “no differentiation” 😂
Would someone who isn’t blocked ask this person to delete their false claim about workshops at my school? (You may also want to ask them if they’ve ever worked in a posh private school themselves and for how long) H/T YKWYA
I believe in school choice. If parents want to send their children to schools where ‘all behaviour is communication’, fidget toys are scattered like confetti and bathrooms are vandalised daily, they should be able to. Likewise, if they want to send their children to schools that are not like that, they should have the choice.
The problem we face is the people who want to use the law and other forms of coercion to make all schools like the first kind.
Ludicrous. No teacher would ever require a child to ‘meet their gaze’ for a whole lesson. Teachers need to look at the board, other students and so on. Instead, this seems to be a hyperbolic and emotive response to attention routines such as SLANT that most schools would adjust for students with specific needs.
Psychologists often prescribe classroom adjustments for children that are not evidence-based.
Teachers then implement these adjustments.
Teachers are also allowed to have opinions on the fact these adjustments are not evidence-based and on this whole bizarre process.
@mmechevrolet This is an age old problem. Back in the 1920s, when I was in primary school, I was sat next to a kid who kept stealing and damaging my stuff because a) it would have a good effect on him and b) it would build my character.
Former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard has rowed back on her government’s controversial changes to the Australia Sex Discrimination Act in 2013, telling an audience at Manchester University: “It was a different time.” Latest: https://t.co/I1sdujwTeC
@ALegalProcess An excellent mental health intervention is equipping students with the knowledge & skills required to access the curriculum.
Another excellent mental health intervention is to have a safe environment (e.g. bullying gets punished, calm passing periods, etc)

You don’t need to be a capitalist to recognise there is a marketplace of ideas.
Too many intellectuals think it’s all about supply. That’s why they seek to censor ideas or talk darkly of populists spreading misinformation.
This completely neglects demand. Ideas for which there is little demand will die. Ideas for which there is demand and no supply will eventually find a supply.
That’s what’s happening on social media.
