Town complete with castle, armoury, ghost tower, gate, 4 towers, quay defence, two jails, blacksmith, tavern and stables. 🏰

On a visit to Wales today. First stop: Dolforwyn Castle. A native Welsh Castle begun by Llywelyn ap Gruffydd. Captured by Roher Mortimer of Wigmore after a brief siege during the war of 1276-7 #castle #Wales

And also remarkably the site of no less than 9 CWG headstones. Two soldiers from WWI, two seamen, an airman and a marine from WWII and three others.

Despite the sad occasion, an opportunity to see the 12C church of St. Mary Magdalene in Wyken, Coventry. Mostly 12C Norman with some later additions. Inside is a rare survival of a 15C wall painting of St.Christopher #medieval

The vicar was kind enough to open the church to let us view the fresco of St. Christopher, Patron St of Travellers. Painted in the last quarter of the 15C and plastered over in 1547. Rediscovered in 1950. #medieval #Church

@nesoron @battleftrust @1642Author There isn’t much left now bedsides the bell tower, some of the abbey buildings which serve as the almonry museum and an arch from the cloister leading into the Chapter House. Part of the abbey church and the Chapter House are marked on the ground in stones.

An unplanned stop at Abbey Park, Evesham means a chance to visit the abbey site and the site of Simon de Montfort’s tomb. Simon was killed at the battle of Evesham in 1265 #medieval #Abbey
