Longtime pitching coach Phil Regan, whose career in baseball spanned seven decades, died today, his attorney, Matt Blit, told ESPN. Regan was 89.
He managed the Baltimore Orioles for one year and served as pitching coach with the Mariners, Cubs, Indians and Mets, among others.
@The7Line Okay, fine. But I feel much sorrier for the folks plunking down money and investing time to see him out there. Esp. the folks who are bringing kids and hearing boos/jeers.
What was the term Steve used....mercy shot? He's gotta go.
This clip, from Larry David's new show "Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness" is one of his FUNNIEST ever.
Awesome to have Rob Reiner as George Washington in possibly one of his final on-screen performances.
Cameo by Kimmel is chef's kiss.
RIP, Rob Reiner.
@BrandonTierney That's nonsense. The radio hosts' primary interaction is w/the fans and their job is entertainment. Cohen went with journalists - whom he interacts w/regularly.
It's not meant as a slam, but there's not one good on-air interviewer on WFAN. That's not what they do.
@NYNJHarper It probably wasn't savvy. But the long interview was remarkable for its candor. To duck the question asked and be evasive would have been out of character w/the rest of it. I think most close watchers believed it already....and could see it.
@CoachMcCartan I'm just not sure what the point is you're making. McNeil is terrible and Baty and Semien are both roughly equally terrible. If you're saying the Mets shouldn't have gotten rid of a terrible player only to replace him w/another, OK. But losing McNeill was not a loss at all
@mikemayer22@ScoreboardSteve Discourse on X is rarely good. I found the business about Soto's hanging in the cages during games and Stearns' alleged response to the inquiry to be legitimately troubling. However, also totally plausible.
@mikemayer22@ScoreboardSteve My own POV is that Chavez's allegations (and they are just and only that) contain *some* assertions that are both newsworthy and of interest to readership.
Electing not to amplify some is a choice, but shutting one's ears to them wouldn't seem to serve anyone.
