RIP Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
Arguably my biggest single contribution to British journalism is the amount of times I've introduced his commentary quotes to awed and thankful English journalists.
I'll be participating in a Tough Mudder event and hope to raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Please donate and support.

In a great (& destructive) irony, Mechanical Turk is just AI, now.
The MTurk crowdworking platform is a major place for researchers (and companies) to get humans to do small tasks & experiments. But this paper finds 33-46% of Turkers use LLMs to do tasks. https://t.co/MMO15yYMgj
@clakklaa I was surprised to learn that over 50% of heterosexual male users of OnlyFans were married men. Mirroring the distribution of men who sex services. I wrongly assumed it was almost exclusively lonely men wanting connection/GF experience.
We have a new paper on how instructors can use ChatGPT and Bing to apply complex pedagogy to their classes, while making their lives easier, too. There are lots of prompts to try out.

“In Finland, the # of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” https://t.co/EH3reri9lz
New paper claims to provide “clear evidence” for the serotonin hypothesis of #depression.
N = 37, p = 0.04, and in the results you can see that removing a single observation turns the result non significant.
Impressive new study by @KateLaskowski et al. shows that genetically identical fish from mothers reared in identical environments show reliable behavioural differences from day 1 after birth, stable over 10 weeks in identical environments. Chance identity. https://t.co/NCihENTs7o
Another devastating blow to biological models of mental disorders: “despite 3 decades of intense neuroimaging research, we still lack a neurobiological account for any psychiatric condition” … “neuroimaging plays no role in clinical decision making.” https://t.co/V8eRmXabBm
"cost-benefit analysis understates the horrors of unemployment...when workers lose their jobs, they literally weep. For most of us, a job isn’t only a paycheck. A job provides a sense of identity, purpose, and community. Happiness research supports this" https://t.co/fip4Blzhtw
I am delighted to announce that our #HCII2022 paper, "Assessing the Comprehensiveness of the Co-operative Performance Metric: A mixed-methods analysis using Portal 2," has been published. A huge thank you to @conorlinehan for his support & guidance. https://t.co/MSyaVWuGwS
