@rockerskating Amber seemed to nearly fall on the footwork right after the botched loop and she covered it up as an additional knee slide. I think judges notices too, as I saw a bunch of -2 and -3’s on it. Too bad, she started so well.
@PolinaEdmunds Wait, did I miss something? I saw the 3a-1/2loop-4s. But didn’t see a 3a/4t (which he has performed before but not at Olympics). What did surprise me was the 4F, which I don’t believe he’s competed before.
@rockerskating Yes, I’d like to see points given back to walleys, one foot axels and inside axels! Double half-loops (these days called Eulers) also used to be done.
@rockerskating Seven quads is another unprecedented accomplishment from Ilia. I think that about maxes out what you can do under the rules! The only thing left would be to repeat the quad axel instead of the Lutz.
@rockerskating Agreed! I think it’s the best one I’ve ever seen because of the speed coming out. Nathan tended to lose speed on his flip and lutz landing, so would cover up by quickly to steps out of it.
@rockerskating They did explicitly say that she has to forfeit everything she received, and obviously that would have to be all points she was awarded during the Olympic team competition. Medal determining organizations don’t really have much option given this order.
@rockerskating Agreed! Those three all skated to their full potentials. The top two both made a lot of obvious mistakes that the judges were lenient about, IMHO, especially Jason in the tech scores. That said, Jason and Ilia are definitely our best shot at Worlds to get 3 spots next year.
@PolinaEdmunds Seven clean-as-a-whistle triples, impressive. Her success was also due to the new double axel sequence rule which allowed her to do all those triples without a difficult combo.
