Aaron Donald is officially back with the Rams. He’s returning on a 1-year, $20M deal that can reach $30M with incentives, after two seasons away.

For the Power Index 5, this is a major positive personnel move, especially because Donald now joins Myles Garrett on the same defensive front. The Rams suddenly have two historically elite pass-rush threats, with Donald attacking inside and Garrett coming off the edge.

Donald materially raises the Rams’ ceiling in close games.

This doesn’t directly change Rams offensive turnovers, but extra sacks and pressure can create shorter fields and more possessions.

🚨 POWER INDEX 5 — NFL ROSTER CUT WATCH

Most meaningful cuts so far:

Steelers: LB Jamin Davis and LB Elandon Roberts released. That’s the biggest defensive personnel hit among the early cuts and could matter for points allowed and defensive consistency.

Bengals: DT McKinnley Jackson and QB Josh Johnson released. Jackson is the bigger Power Index concern because of defensive depth.

Ravens: OLB Adisa Isaac released. Mostly a depth move; low immediate PI5 impact.

Chiefs: CB Kaiir Elam being released. Former first-rounder, but based on his recent role this is low-to-moderate impact, not a reason to downgrade Kansas City by itself.

Buccaneers: QB Jake Browning released, leaving rookie Jalon Daniels as Baker Mayfield’s backup. This becomes a high-risk depth issue only if Mayfield misses time. Tampa has already made roughly 20 cuts.

Dolphins: QBs Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski released after Quinn Ewers was traded. Miami’s QB depth chart is being reshaped and deserves moderate watch status.

Falcons: OT Wanya Morris released only months after Atlanta traded for him. Mainly an offensive-line depth move.

49ers: QB Adrian Martinez released Saturday. Minimal PI5 impact unless quarterback injuries pile up.

Giants: WR Isaiah Hodgins among eight Saturday releases. This looks more like roster consolidation than a major offensive downgrade.

🚨 PACKERS POWER INDEX 5 UPDATE

Josh Jacobs being placed on the NFL Commissioner Exempt List is a real concern for Green Bay — but I’m not changing their Power Index 5 score yet.

Why? My index is based on results:
Wins | Giveaways | 3rd Down % | Points Allowed | Penalty Yards

Jacobs’ absence could hurt Green Bay most on 3rd downs, ball control, and turnovers. If that shows up in the games, the Packers will naturally fall in the rankings.

Risk: 2–6 spots if Jacobs misses multiple games

Biggest impact from the final two games

Detroit jumps from #6 to #5. The Lions’ third-down rate explodes to 55.3%, second-best in the entire index, despite the ugly nine cumulative giveaways.

Chicago finishes #13. The Bears’ win helps substantially, while their 29.3% third-down rate keeps them from climbing higher.

Tennessee falls from #5 to #15. Zero giveaways remains elite, but the loss, 32.5% third-down rate, and 213 penalty yards crush their final score.

Indianapolis drops to #32, largely because its cumulative third-down performance falls to 3-for-29, 10.3%, the worst in the index.
