The #UNOceanConference2022 starts today and we want to remind everyone how critical the ocean is to the health of our planet, producing at least 50% of our oxygen and absorbing 90% of the world's heat.
We must #SaveOurOcean if we want to tackle the #ClimateEmergency!
Also for anyone travelling to Grenada! Sadly, sale of turtleshell is legal here, but we strongly discourage any purchase of it.
Hawksbills are Critically Endangered & you cannot transport turtleshell products internationally without facing fines and prosecution! #TooRareToWear
New fully funded #PhD for Sept 2022! ONLY for Indian Ocean region candidates to study sea turtle biology in the Western Indian Ocean, including foraging ecology & identification of critical habitats. Funded by @Bertarelli_fdn at @SwanseaUni More details: https://t.co/0O4Q0LIlsO
The 2022 #UNOceanConference begins today! Co-hosted by the governments of Kenya and Portugal, the Conference will seek to propel much needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action.

Given adult female leatherbacks can lay 800 eggs in a single nesting season, every individual lost can make a difference to decreasing populations of this vulnerable species, and every successful rescue is a win for their conservation!

Great news for this #leatherback turtle🥳 Thanks to everyone involved in this rescue from @uscoastguard, @NantucketMMAN, and of course the individuals who reported the incident!

Entanglement is a serious threat to not just #turtles, but all marine megafauna, with huge numbers of #sharks, #cetaceans and other species dying all over the world from encounters with discarded or lost fishing gear.

🌊Today is #WorldOceanDay and this year's theme is "Revitalisation: collective action for the ocean" 🌊
We are teaming up with @GrenadaEcoDive to celebrate all things #ocean on the 18th June at Grand Anse beach - we would love to see you there for sandcastles, face paint & fun!!
These are just some of the many reasons we should appreciate #turtles as our neighbours!
If you are interested in learning more about sea turtles, we will be on Grand Anse beach this Saturday morning to have fun and share our love of all things turtle!

On #WorldSeaTurtleDay we are finding reasons to shell-ebrate all things turtle!
Not only are turtles beautiful to look at, but they provide valuable ecosystem services which are of great help to us humans!

Hawksbill and green turtles help reduce damage caused to coasts by storms and wave surge through maintenance of healthy coral reef and seagrass beds - protecting coastal communities from the affects of climate change

June 15th is Leatherback Day! 💚🐢

Leatherback turtles can dive 2/3rds of a mile deep, deeper than all but a couple of the larger species of whales. Their softer shell allows them to withstand the pressure of more depth. Learn more about this fascinating species: https://t.co/VOGHcIv8GF #SeaTurtleWeek
Wishing everyone a very happy #WorldTurtleDay!!!!!
In Grenada we host a significant nesting population of the largest sea #turtle - the #leatherback! These gentle giants can reach almost 1.8 metres length and 900 kg in weight, all from a diet of jellyfish!
