Sixty years ago, on this day in 1965, Brother Malcolm (el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) was assassinated.
Gunned down in front of his wife and daughters.
What a tragic day for humanity.
I’m praying today for his daughters, who I love dearly.

Thank you to @ChicagoState for hosting the first "The Time is Now" listening session of 2025!
Over 100 people from CSU & the Chicagoland community are here to support adequate and equitable funding for our public universities 🙌
We will always protect Chicago’s working families and public schools, regardless of who's in power. Our city is standing firm to uphold local ordinances and ensure a safe, supportive environment for all.
I agree Chicago is special. Welcome to Chicago, Coach! Congratulations to Bears fans everywhere. You and your family’s invitation to the Johnson family reunion is in the mail!
*Coalition building & collaboration prevented the largest Latine school closures in the history of our city and country. 2000 students and their families hv stability. The irony? This fight is built on the backs of Black families that suffered traumatic impacts closures for yrs.
I love being mayor, but being a public school teacher was still the best job I’ve ever had.
In this fight against the anti-democratic forces that want to halt progress, I will always stand with working people.
