Before I left the U.S., I thought Colombia was a “third world country.”
What I found: hustle, dignity, kindness — and a lesson I didn’t expect.
🧵 A short reflection 👇
A kid tugged at my friend’s pants asking for money.
He replied, “No tengo.”
I didn’t know what that meant, but now I use it often.
I’ve seen more hustle in Medellín than anywhere else.
Street vendors. Candy sellers. People washing windshields just to eat.
Even the way Colombia treats the homeless feels… human.
Back home, I was homeless once. I remember the looks.
Here, people let them be. No judgment. Just quiet empathy.
Colombia is not what I expected. It’s so much more.
