Altman’s Grocery Barn & Grill is a 5th generation country store, restaurant, and gas station serving the Mingo community and surrounding rural areas of Northern Sampson County. We offer groceries, drinks, snacks, fuel, burgers, pizza, hotdogs, ice cream, shakes and a lot more.
She had a long career with the Cumberland County Library, serving on the Bookmobile traveling the highways of that county (and often sneaking into Sampson so her great-nephews could get a book). She retired in 1989; she is missed.
The memory poasting will continue: Aunt Frances was a true Catbird. She was the youngest of Herman Jackson’s three daughters. She had great stories and memorable sayings; “I’m Tarheel born and Tarheel bred, and when I die, I’ll be a Tarheel dead”.
Time marches on but it’s good to remember. We’re putting up some of the old photographs from years past and we’ve also compiled a photo album; maybe you’ll recognize some of the folks. Next time you’re in, sit down and take a look.
In observance of Thanksgiving, Altman’s will be closing tomorrow (Wednesday November 27th) at 2pm and reopening Friday November 29th at 7am. We wish you and your family and Happy Thanksgiving!
