PDA Awareness & Support Group 🐼 based in Lanarkshire. Consortium Group raising awareness of Pathological Demand Avoidance while supporting other Parents/Carers
This was us back in August when @marionfellows met with ourselves & some of our parents. Thank you for your continued support and allowing us to share our experiences first hand and listen about why awareness is desperately needed x
Yesterday I met with parents from local support group - PDA Awareness & Support Group. PDA (pathological demand avoidance) is a neurological condition that affects many individuals with Autism Spectrum Conditions.
Happy #PDAday 🐼 This year our focus is on research which is key to changing policy & practice and reducing the postcode lottery that surrounds #PDA.
There's lots to come today including our PDA research consultation survey launch. Here's more info: https://t.co/V5hGJbske5
We are lucky as a group to have made so many great partnerships in our community, we are also grateful that here in Lanarkshire our CYP can get a PDA/EDA profile diagnosis via NHS however we still have a long way too go in lots of ways 🐼💜
To celebrate #PDAday we are releasing our ⭐BRAND NEW⭐ guide - How to support children with #PDA@GroupPda
This guide includes:
✔️Features of the PDA profile
✔️What PDA looks like in the classroom
✔️Classroom strategies

Sorry for the lack of interaction on Twitter lately, all things ASD, PDA and a family living with cancer kind of got in the way. However no better day than this to be back here.
#PDAday
@autismmumbomo@GreatOrmondSt Yes my son now 18 diagnosed with both Autism and ARFID, it’s been a very long and difficult journey. Originally diagnosed with a “food phobia” aged 2 It’s important to find someone who understands both Autism and ARFID which can be tricky. Groups on fb which are a lifeline x
@MotivatedMinds5@MrsBrown_SEMH@MotivatedMinds5 just a little heads up, be careful with the visual timetables, many PDAers find these very demanding and in turn can cause more anxiety, I learned that very early on with my own child and we have seen it with our families CYP
@PookyH@itmustbemum So needed, son now diagnosed aged 17 also autistic but it’s plagued him for 15 years of his life, initially diagnosed with a “food phobia”& failure to thrive at a very early age, spent lots of time in hospital in his early childhood. I have spent years trying to access support x
Passion and emotion from @Shubhanna during #CarersParliament panel session. LA telling carers they are not a babysitting service when all parent carers want are their children to be included and have the same chances as other children #Equality
If you live in North Lanarkshire and would like to volunteer for a new branch of @AutismScotland please let myself or Lucas know. We would love you to join us 🙂
After a decade of campaigning, it makes me sick to the stomach to see the blatant disregard of human rights... a parent found these photos online... apparently a "training session" where the company replaced faces with emojis on their social media pages.
Coming to our schools...
