I presented the first (preliminary) results of project #GrowBirdGrow at #NAOC2020 today! Here's the poster (I zoom into each section in the thread if you want to learn more!)
Please ignore my typos haha (due*), I was really riled up about missing my own talk #VirtualConference
Do to my computer freezing up I didn't get enough time to give my poster its just due. Here it is in case you are interested! I zoom in on the different sections in the thread below:

Booked my PhD defense 🤩
Exit seminar is next week, formal defense will be 3 June! Will be much more excited when my dissertation is a bit more, shall we say, on paper and not rattling around my brain
Hey science-minded pals, my PhD Exit Seminar is two weeks from today (27 March, 4-5PM Central) and you are invited!
This is not my stats-heavy PhD defense (that'll be in June) but rather a more general-audience #SciComm robin biology storytelling seminar
DM for Zoom link
Are you at #AOS_SCO23 (@AmOrnith & @SCO_SOC meeting)?
Do you like...
-baby birds
-parental investment (hormones!)
-intraspecific variation
-nonlinear models
-and/or watching a presenter frantically race the clock?
Check out my talk today (Thurs) at 4:45 in Salon B!
What do egg hormones, non-linear mixed models, and 252 baby American Robins have in common?
They're all the stars of my #AOS_SCO23 talk today about project #GrowBirdGrow! If you're in town come check it out (4:45 PM Salon B), delighted to have significant results (for once)!
So exciting @skwinnicki !
& be sure if you're at #AOS_SCO23 , that you read
Winnicki's co authored https://t.co/O3TzjLRH5x
with one of our IOB authors @cowbirdlab
"Inter-Individual Variation in Anti-Parasitic Egg Rejection Behavior..."
Hauber, et al
https://t.co/aYiIod3B8X
@skwinnicki teaches us all about robin eggs and the growth and survival of the birds that hatch out of them! Laying order impacts egg size and mass, tarsus, and headbill size of hatchlings. Awesome talk!! #AOS_SCO2023
Excited to present my robin growth work at #AOS_SCO23 (Thursday 16:45 Salon B) and help lead @RainbowLors events there (discussion panel and social!)
I'm also hoping to defend Spring 2024 so I'm looking for postdoc positions, check out https://t.co/KhZ9oY4wNt for more about me!
Guess I should've also said that I'm giving a presentation! Catch my talk on robin growth at #WOS2022 on Monday at 3:45 PM in Room B! I promise it'll be hormone-light and robin-photo-heavy!
Took my last robin baby measurements of the year today on my 97th datasheet. Kind of bummed I didn't get to 100 datasheets, but each datasheet has room for 10 sets of measurements... I have a lot of robin baby size data to enter!
Last measurement day for the last robin babies of the field season! Now I just have to monitor them for fledge. I’m going to miss my sweet little babies!
Graduate school can be exhausting and frustrating at times but damn do I love the opportunities
I remember watching a talk on nest microbiomes a few years back. Totally different than my work on baby growth but I was fascinated. And now I get to connect microbiomes to growth!!!
My pie-in-the-sky outlandishly high goal was to collect 450 robin baby poop samples this year. To hit 450 I’d need to find many more nests than last year and they’d have to be like 10 times more successful
Today with 5 days left in my season, I did it with the help of this cutie
I’ve lost most of my robin babies to predators in the last few days
But angry momma (who physically attacks me every time I measure her nestlings) has kept her three safe, even as predators got all her neighbors’ nests. Now they’re ready to fledge! So happy for her <3
