I said last year I wanted one of these. While walking in my gully I saw one. Moved it to the garden. It’s a ground cherry. Things just show up around here :)

How I plant an Apple tree in clay.

1. Dig decent size hole.

2. Remove all media off roots. You don’t want bark and other junk rotting in the hole.

3. Spread roots outward and begin covering roots in layers. Watering as you go.

4. Mulch and add a wind break and shade cloth.

This isn’t rocket science, yes clay holds water but I root tons of plants in pure water. The issue is when you put “soil” in with the clay. Soil these days is bark, sticks, peat, etc. Not soil at all. Do not add this, it’s what rots then leads to root rot.

I have the luxury of having woods. I dig some top soil under the leaves from my gulleys from the south side. I do add a little worm castings, well finished compost, and leaf mold. Tiny amounts all you are doing is adding microbes not making “drainage”.

I thought about manufacturing these, but never did. I use it on so much in the garden. Trellising tomatoes, peppers, etc. Feel free to steal my idea, it’s very useful.

Can’t afford to waste rain water around here. Ignore the pots this is actually a squash row when temps hit 70.

My hack to spray many trees with hardly any pumping and without wasting whatever i’m spraying. First nozzle is from a standard spray bottle. Second is from a travel spray bottle. I just sprayed 16 citrus trees with 1 gallon. A finer mist is actually better for whatever you spray

This 12x20ft bed will grow so much food this year. 3 years ago was regular grass on clay. Only organic inputs, very proud of this piece of ground.

Todays work. Still need to put some wood chips in the walkway, but don’t have any.
