People against AI:
"AI separates art from its human essence and abandons it to a soulless mass production industry under the control of corporations. Also, AI technology has replaced 'development' with profit from partnerships, and beyond its negative environmental impacts it has now reached the level of being used in warfare. What's more, increasing the use of AI makes you more replaceable, it can make it easier to produce more things, but companies will ultimately use it to cut costs, and you'll end up producing more while earning less."
AI bros:
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive cutting corners: the process of creation is part of the creation itself if you do most of the work yourself why would you want to put part of that process in the hands of an unthinking program instead of using a creative solution to whatever problem you come across
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive unethical sourcing: Pretty straightforward the data that genai are trained on just scrape the internet usually taking artwork, music, etc. from creators and mangling them together with the creators consent
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive lets see. unethical sourcing, (while not specific to gen ai alone) obscenely large datecenters taking up land and resources, the fact that it encourages people to cut corners in the pursuit of creation and thats just the ai itself, havent even begun on the users
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive of course thats IF its replaced in the final product not like those devs that left ai "placeholders" in and only removed them once players pointed them out
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive obviously these hypothetical gamedevs are more attuned to their slop machine I havent used any so of course I would take longer but if the speed is all they care about why are they in gamedev to begin with? do they only care about pushing their game out and not its quality?
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive cant imagine its that fast given theyd have to prompt and reprompt several times before getting their ideal result sure the mspaint option is faster
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive give me an example of where a developer would NEED to use gen ai for a placeholder instead of just going on google and finding a reference OR going the Slay the Spire route and just using crude mspaint doodles
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive obviously you wont care because you dont have any convictions about the creation of art you view it as a commodity but actual creatives care about their craft they dont want some sloppy regurgitated mess that more often than not sticks out like a sore thumb dirtying their art
@Trotskyism1917@michal_jares@SwiiLive an ai placeholder DOES show they care less because it means theyre willing to cut corners on their vision. if theyre willing to prompt a placeholder what else are they prompting that the consumer isnt seeing that might be in the final product
