While our attention should first and foremost lie in reigning in out of control deficit spending, we need to also make smart investments in proven areas such as biomedical research. 1 in 3 Medicare dollars is spent on diabetes care, 1 in 5 is spent on Alzheimer's care. 1/2

The deficit is out of control - and the biggest drain on the budget are the inefficient entitlement programs. To take back control of our national finances we must take a hard look at how we can modernize and right-size Entitlements.

The opioid crisis has shattered lives all across the country, including here at home in Tennessee. We can't let it continue and must send aid to those who suffer. I was glad to see a commitment from both my Republican and Democratic colleagues to address this epidemic.
