Grün ist die Farbe der Narren
One of the most interesting aspects of Uwe Boll’s latest film, Citizen Vigilante, is not only the fact that Germany effectively censored it by refusing an FSK rating.
It is the fact that the protagonist had to be American.
That is not an accident. It is almost a necessity.
The film is set in Europe, but the central figure is an American fighter who confronts evil directly, with weapons, discipline, and decisive action. Many people have asked why this role was not played by an Englishman, a Frenchman, or a German.
The answer is simple: it would not have been believable.
Europe has spent decades breeding passivity into its civil societies. Not pacifism in the noble sense, but something far worse: passivism. A habit of submission and subordination. A reflex of hesitation and procrastination. A culture of waiting, complaining, complying, and ultimately accepting whatever the state decides to impose.
The United States is totally different because of one central constitutional idea: the Second Amendment.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”
That sentence created a very different civilizational DNA in America.
The Second Amendment is not only about hunting, sport shooting, or personal defense. It represents a permanent constitutional check on state power. It reflects the idea that a free people must never be completely dependent on the state for its own security, and that an armed citizenry creates a final barrier against tyranny.
Europe does not have this. And the European mind does not even comprehend this.
Germany has Article 20 paragraph 4 of the Basic Law, which says that all Germans have the right to resist anyone seeking to abolish the constitutional order, if no other remedy is possible. But in reality, this provision is almost meaningless. It is so narrow and so conditional that it would probably only become relevant when it is already far too late.
The American Second Amendment is different. It is not some theoretical emergency clause buried in constitutional doctrine. It is a living, daily check and balance.
There are roughly 500 million privately owned firearms in the United States, more civilian firearms than people, and significantly more than the roughly 5.5 million firearms across all branches of the U.S. military and U.S. law enforcement combined.
That fact alone explains a lot. The government can never drift as far away from its people in America as European states have drifted from theirs, because the people still represent a real counterweight.
This is exactly the cultural background that makes Citizen Vigilante believable.
The protagonist is not a weak European. He is not shaped by decades of woke state dependency, speech control, censorship, bureaucratic obedience, and disarmed submission. He comes from a culture in which personal responsibility, armed self-defense, suspicion of state power, and direct action are still part of the national character.
The second point is military culture.
The United States has a long tradition of elite military capability and civic respect for service. The U.S. Marine Corps was founded in 1775. The U.S. Army Rangers were created in 1942, and the Army Special Forces, the so-called Green Berets, trace their modern origin to 1952.
Germany is a completely different story. The GSG 9 was created only after the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, because Germany had no adequate counterterrorist capability at the time. The Bundeswehr’s KSK was only founded in 1996, in the context of Germany’s growing out-of-area deployment requirements. That tells its own story.
In America, military service, police service, the National Guard, the Coast Guard, and family traditions of service still carry a different meaning. In many families, several generations have served. Across regions and social classes, millions of Americans have at least some cultural or practical connection to firearms, military training, police training, hunting, self-defense, or service culture.
Europe does not have that breadth anymore. And even more importantly, Europe does not have any of the military or police pride the United States still has.
In Europe, and especially in Germany, the men and women in uniform have lost much of the respect they once might have had, partly because the state itself has changed and increasingly uses these units to suppress people rather than to protect and serve. Police forces are increasingly perceived not as neutral guardians of law and order, but as instruments of political suppression, censorship, thought control, selective enforcement, and two-tier policing.
That is visible in the UK. It is visible in France. It is visible in Germany.
When police enforce political orthodoxy more aggressively than public safety, they lose moral authority and turn themselves into willing servants of left-wing politics. When they punish speech while ignoring disorder, they become servants of ideology rather than protectors of law. Citizen Vigilante understands this atmosphere very well.
That is why the American protagonist works and why he could not have been European.
He represents a type of man Europe has long lost and almost forgotten: resolute, decisive, trained, willing to act, unwilling to surrender his agency to a collapsing, corrupt system. He is not waiting for a committee, a commission, a bureaucratic process, or some cowardly political compromise. He does not even need an order to do what is right and to follow common sense.
He acts.
That is precisely what makes him American.
Europeans are defined by hesitation, doubt, fear, compliance, and endless moral paralysis. Americans are defined by action, responsibility, courage, forward motion, and the willingness to confront danger directly.
That is the mentality the protagonist needed.
A German version of this character would have felt absurd. A French or British version would also have been difficult to believe. These societies have allowed themselves to become submissive, subordinate, and obedient to authority. Their citizens increasingly behave as objects of state action, not subjects of their own destiny or their own will.
That is why the plot needs an American hero to come to the rescue.
The irony is that Germany has now helped make the film famous. Had Germany simply given Citizen Vigilante an FSK 18 rating, the film would have been released normally. Some people would have watched it. A few reviews would have appeared. Then the discussion might have faded.
Instead, the private FSK submitted to the political climate, refused the rating, and effectively blocked and censored the film from normal German distribution. The result was predictable: the Streisand effect.
Germany tried to make the film disappear. Instead, it made people curious.
At first, the debate was mostly European. Now even large American X accounts are noticing. It is probably only a matter of time before even bigger voices like @ElonMusk enter the discussion.
The question “Why is Germany censoring this film?” is exactly the kind of question that travels fast in the United States, because Americans still understand, far better than Europeans, what censorship means.
That is the final irony.
The same German narrow-mindedness, cowardice, and bureaucratic stupidity that the film indirectly exposes has now become the reason the film is spreading internationally.
Germany wanted silence. It created attention.
Germany wanted control. It created curiosity.
Germany wanted to suppress the film. It may have turned it into a global free-speech story.
And that, in a way, proves the deeper point of Citizen Vigilante.
Europe is weak because it has forgotten how to act. It has forgotten how to defend itself. It has forgotten how to resist. It has forgotten that liberty is not preserved by bureaucrats, censors, politically biased police forces, and obedient citizens, but by people who still have the will, the courage, and the backbone to stand up and say no.
Maybe Europe has to fall even much further before it learns that lesson again.
And maybe, as in Citizen Vigilante, the impulse to resist will once again have to come from America.
[The full version of the film is attached. Germany may try to censor it in cinemas, on TV, and on streaming platforms, but here on X, for now, free speech still exists. So here is the film for everyone who wants to see what Germany apparently does not want people to watch.]

If white Christian men had systematically raped 250,000 brown children for a decade, it would be the biggest scandal of half a century.
But because brown Muslim men did it to white children, the authorities continue covering it up, and media continues refusing to talk about it.
@jungefreiheit:
"Martin Hagen hat die AfD im Interview scharf angegriffen und wir haben immer wieder kritisch insistiert, ob der Weg, den er sich für seine Partei vorstellt, am Ende denn wirklich erfolgreich sein kann. So funktioniert Journalismus. Fragen, nachhaken, aber dann auch zuhören. Vielleicht wäre es ja schon ein Anfang, Hagen einfach mal zuzuhören und auf das, was er sagt, und man nicht teilen muss, einzugehen. Sabine Döring verweigert sich dem, und das ist ihr gutes Recht. Sie muss sich dann aber auch nicht wundern, wenn auch ihr immer weniger Menschen zuhören und sie irgendwann nur noch Selbstgespräche führt."
