Though not a comet, Centaur 29P does have active outbursts that vary in intensity every 6-8 weeks. With Webb, scientists discovered a new jet of carbon monoxide, as well as jets of carbon dioxide, marking this as the first definitive detection of CO2 on this object.
The pink regions in this #HubbleFriday view show "H-alpha regions" – which are glowing, star-forming clouds of gas.
They shine from the spiral arms of the galaxy IC 1954, which is located about 45 million light-years away: https://t.co/vHNI5fDUYL
An 11/10 view 🤩
