I’ve been at this awhile, and I don’t get a ton of “firsts”…
Tonight, our room was entirely silent after the workout. It was glorious. Not a peep nor a murmur came out. I didn’t know we had worked that hard.
Fresh off a disappointing U23 World Team Trials, @CalderSheehan came in last night and let me put him on the spot at practice.
Get back on the horse and ride. We’re lucky to have living examples all around us.
Max Balow is in the U23 Greco-Roman WTT 130KG bracket today.
Calder Sheehan is in the U23 70KG Freestyle bracket tomorrow.
I’ll be avoiding responsibilities and spectating this weekend.
Which brings me to this afternoon and a trip to Pine Island to Lauren Elsmore’s party. Lauren brings people together. She’s also tough as nails. I gotta get over to watch her, Armagost, and others over at Sioux Falls soon. Go Cougars.
After Kaisen’s, we hopped over to Elle Eickhoff’s party in Chatfield as well. Elle’s been a leader in so many communities. 100% focus on Freestyle in Dubuque is gonna unlock some more greatness there.
Yesterday, the gal and I started our day at Kaisen Johnson’s party. I can’t wait to see what he’s capable of up at St. John’s both on the gridiron and the mat. Looking at his tables and awards, he’s pretty bright, too. I sense more accomplishment in his future.
Saturday night, I ventured out to Viola for Bronson Shea’s graduation party. “The Franchise” now owns his own lawn care business. You’ll would’ve thought it was Gopher Count, driving through town and parking.
I’m banking on him being rich enough to sponsor in a couple of years.
From PI, we jetted down to Preston for Kane Larson’s grad party. Kane’s accomplishments speak for themselves. His best wrestling is still ahead of him. His leadership has shown not only in his home program, but also in our club.
In PI, hitting Keagan Lowrie’s grad party. First of the season. Keagan was a utility man. That kid followed a lot of my directions and still didn’t quite get what he wanted. I’ll always appreciate the way he did the darn thing.
If your mother is at Northern Plains, you better start a line of chore credit or something. This is borderline-abysmal. Bless all the moms on this Mothers Day!
For high school seniors or their parents who still want to wrestle in college. There are still opportunities out there. You probably won't get much scholarship, it probably won't be your dream school, it probably won't be D1. But there are a lot of schools with roster spots
The athlete who had arguably the most success this weekend stopped me after practice to ask two specific situational questions from said weekend.
1. Success is rarely an accident.
2. If that don’t fire me up, I’m in the wrong business.
I’m really banking on the youngest Graner not making me get up extra early to get weight off. Maybe Steele can be a heavyweight by the time he’s in 16U.
