@steve_mccabe 8 weeks as president and it is clear that the financial support we offer clinical medical students on placement is not sufficient. Monday's debate has been postponed but it's time to join the conversation. https://t.co/pQoA7E9Uvy
my brief piece in the times about why it is vital that tuition fees are scrapped.
HE is in crisis. students are working multiple part time jobs to just get by. the rental crisis is leaving students homeless as we speak. the only solution is to demarketise

the stark reality of the student housing crisis right now. a dire direct consequence of the market of HE and the lack of care given to students once they’re recruited and paid their fees.
the fact that this is a trend rn and not an anomoly needs to be a wake up call

As the Cost of Living continues to affect students it would be amazing if students could fill out this transport survey so UOB can shape how commuting in the West Midlands works (and make it cheaper)

Spain has just introduced free rail travel for all local journeys from Sept-March paid for by taxing wealth of big energy & finance corporations.
Long distance fares are also being cut by 50%.
We need to do the same in the UK.
To whomever it may concern: after the Farah story, please don’t start saying ‘think how many other future heroes we might be deporting to Rwanda’. This policy isn’t disgusting because they may be exceptional people. It’s disgusting because they’re people.
2000s fashion is back baby, from cargo trousers and baguette bags, to pushing total bullshit about welfare recipients in order to bolster an economic project which transfers money from the poor to the rich.
The myth of meritocracy is a convenient way for privileged people to frame their lives as an uphill struggle. We hear a lot about hard work (as if most people don't work hard) and very little about inherited wealth, private education and family connections.
