To the IMG Medical Students & Junior Doctors.

After your medical school, your classmates will take different routes.

Some will be more successful & quicker in getting jobs abroad & others will take a bit of time.

Those you thought were brilliant at study may start to struggle while those you considered average suddenly will be lighting up.

If you kept comparing yourself with others & especially the ones who first got jobs abroad, you will feel left out & depressed.

It's good to have healthy competition & sources of inspiration, but this feeling of getting left behind can be overwhelming & can paralyse your progress.

You will see some people won't care where they get job, they just want to get out of the country, so they will try multiple avenues while others will plan more detailed pathways.

Some of us have wider responsibilities with family & difficulties with financial affairs, which can prevent us from going abroad.

There is risk & uncertainly involved in every pathway going abroad. None of the pathways going abroad for doctors comes with guarantees of jobs.

It's all about doing yourself best and being at the right place at the right time.

Your journey after graduation will be unique & different. We all have our little struggles & demons to overcome.

As potential repercussions of Doc Iggy’s case, doctors may feel more cautious/selective of having lawyers as patients (or any other patient, in general), healthcare costs may increase, and the public may lose confidence in our already far-from-perfect healthcare system.
