Young people have helped lead all our great movements. How inspiring to see it again in so many smart, fearless students standing up for their right to be safe; marching and organizing to remake the world as it should be. We've been waiting for you. And we've got your backs.
'The gun culture in America is unacceptable, it is causing children to lose their lives' says Alphonso Calderon, a student campaigning for tighter gun controls after the Florida shooting.
I voted to allow #DACA young people to stay & address other immigration issues but no proposal got the needed votes. Time to pass more narrow approach. https://t.co/TScwYz7B8X
We are grieving with Parkland. But we are not powerless. Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we're doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change.
Student David Hogg, who survived school mass shooting:
"People get used to what's going on, and that's not okay. We're habituating to this. What happens when you do that, is children are dying and they will continue to die unless we stop it, stand up, and take action."
Now is *exactly* the time to talk about common sense #guncontrol. It's the only way for us to honor the innocent people who lost their lives.
Call the reps who continue to take money from the @NRA. Remind them that they're accomplices to preventable murders.
this is a conversation someone should never have with their family. We go to school to learn, not to get shot. For some this was their last conversation with their loved ones #PrayforDouglas#GUNviolence
The 2nd Amendment extremists will never be swayed from their hardline position. The only way to enact sane gun regs is at the ballot box. If you feel that way, it's simple: if they take money from the NRA, don't vote for 'em in November.
