It’s late night, but I have to say this about the Peyton Watson trade rumors:
For any sign-and-trade situation, the Nuggets can’t just “take back” Derrick Jones Jr. or Jaime Jaquez Jr. in a deal. They would be hard capped. Currently, Denver’s $3.9 mil below the second apron.
Both of those other guys make more than that. It’s currently illegal for Denver to make those trades.
I’ve tried to explain this on several podcasts: if the Nuggets S&T P-Wat for a rotation player and a draft pick, they also have to have another move lined up to then create the necessary apron room to not only complete the trade legally but also complete the rest of the roster. Like, signing Spencer Jones, or adding a 14th/15th man.
All of these rumors are well and good, but just know that going for Derrick Jones or Jaime Jaquez means Denver probably has to trade Cam Johnson aaaannnd lose Peyton Watson.
@eric_nehm If you are covering the heat now, it’s terrible mismanagement of not announcing it before doing your coverage today, you are a MILWAUKEE BUCKS beat reporter currently
