Texas Tech, on the plan to help Brendan Sorsby…
Says they’ve put a “custodian of his personal finances” and “monitoring on his technology devices that ensures he can not place bets”
There is a subset of Big 12 media and fans and thought Sorsby was cooked and Tech would be without Hammond so down to QB3 for at least a month. They thought that would give them a path to a Big 12 title. Those are the loudest, whiniest critics.
USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
@AndrewBrandt All very foreseeable and why the NCAA should have settled this mess at like 6-7 games. But then they couldn't beg for anti-trust protection without collective bargaining.
@betsandreps A head coach took a job at a rival school while in the CFP last year. Then the schools bullied and bribed each other and fought over everything including staff and a 6th year QB that still needed a judge to grant him eligibility.
Outside of BYU, zero other schools(businesses) would be ranked pre-season top 10 and not fight tooth and nail to keep their projected starting QB available for the CFP which is 10M a round.
@MatthewWVogt@TravisSkol lil buddy not to hurt your feelings but Missou finished 20th in ratings, Tech in the Big 12 finished 29th. you were 13th out of 16 SEC teams.
@_NickKelly He has faced consequences. Not just the mass hysteria directed at him personally but also the loss of access to the program initially and the requirements of his treatment including having his financial accounts and personal devices monitored.
NEW: Texas Tech gave commissioner Brett Yormark exactly what he asked for — a Big 12 team that separates from the pack🌵
Now, several Big 12 programs are calling for the conference to take action against the Red Raiders.

The idea that Texas Tech could save the integrity of college football by choosing to not play Brendan Sorsby is hilarious. The system was broken long before this case, and Texas Tech is merely operating within that system. Any other school would be handling this case the same way.
@ChrisGordy Please do not be a moron for the vibes. He was suspended for bets made in 2022. When he was 18/19.
Then he was betting on Turkish football and other absurd games just to be making bets. It was clearly a real addiction. For the 50-year-olds talking about him: very much a kid.
