Lots of stories today about the "US debt topping $40 trillion" and that interest on said debt is costing American taxpayers over $1 trillion alone annually.

If you look at the dollar bill in your pocket you'll notice it says "Federal Reserve Note" and not "US Treasury Note" on it.
