Redux Redux sees a woman seeking revenge against her daughter’s killer across the multiverse. An interesting take and sting central performances made this one the highlights of this years #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bone Lake sees a couple’s relationship but to the test. With male genital mutilation via crossbow within the first 5 minutes the film settles down into a physiological test before ramping up the violence and gore again by the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Frightfest
Tomb Watcher follows a story of a husband, his mistress, his wife and her ghost. A fun supernatural haunting plays out is a remote cabin. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
First #Frightfest film for Sunday was 213 Bones. A John Hughes like collection of college kids are slowly being stalked and killed off. This whodunnit had interesting if slightly one dimensional characters and an interesting premise. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Final film on Saturday was Hold the Fort. A small community fight back against witches, werewolves and more in this midnight movie. Its short laugh out loud runtime was a treat. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jimmy & Stiggs is drink and drug fuelled all out assault on aliens in one man’s apartment. While some will love this the novelty wore off for me over its short runtime. Stick with the director’s previous film Bliss which was a delight a few years back. #Frightfest ⭐️
Crushed was a surprise. When a young girl’s cat goes missing a series of escalating events in Thailands darker corners lead her priest father’s faith to be questioned at every turn. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Self Help is a horror centred around a daughter looking to help her mother who’s involved in a self help cult. Sadly this one just wasn’t for me. #Frightfest ⭐️
Marshmallow is Goonies meets Friday 13th. An interesting take on the summer camp based slasher that’s likely a gateway into horror for a younger audience. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Red Mask sees a screenwriter looking to pen the script to a classic slasher remake when a couple rock up to the same air bnb. A harmless mistake or fans worried the remake may be woke? A strong love letter to horror fans that’s sure to find an audience. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Portal to Hell was a stand out surprise treat on the discovery screen. Its witty script, unusual horror premise and cast made this a must see at #Frightfest. Those that didn’t see it missed out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Confession was an interesting horror mystery with a good central performance and an atmosphere that gradually builds throughout. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Transcending Dimension had a dream like quality, eye catching visuals and performances which were enough for me to enjoy, even if I truly had very little idea what was happening. #Frightfest ⭐️⭐️⭐️
What She Doesn’t Know. Enough twists & turns to keep the plot moving forward but ultimately involved a predictable mystery I wasn’t invested in by the end. The introduction of a new character simply for the climax ment the film didn’t land a satisfying ending. ⭐️⭐️ #frightfest
Kicked off #frightfest day 2 with a discovery screen film Parasomnia. Good performances and a Rashomon style narrative which allows the mystery to slowly unfold. Mixed in with some creepy dream sequences with a found footage aesthetic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
