Police have taken several people in for questioning, including two local businesspeople, following the weekend shooting of 21 people at KwaNdelu Shisanyama. Sources within SAPS say investigators are reviewing footage from the establishment, which appears to show that one of the alleged gunmen had entered the venue earlier and blended in with patrons. When his alleged accomplices arrived, he reportedly drew a firearm and opened fire.
Sources say investigators have not yet established a link to extortion. The owner of KwaNdelu, which began operating just over a month ago, is not known to have received any extortion demands.
According to sources, extortionists typically make demands through letters with contact details or approach businesses directly. Violence may follow when those demands are ignored.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
