Reported demands made by the terrorists who kidnapped children and teachers in Oyo state:
1. ₦1 billion to be paid into an account in the Benin Republic.
2. Release of terrorists currently held in Agodi and Abolongo Prisons.
3. Two Hilux vehicles.
4. Amendment of Oyo State laws to enforce and introduce sharia law.
For those of you who continue to make excuses for terrorists, who refer to terrorists as your brothers and who applaud this lunatic government when they release these barbaric murderers back into society, please be aware that you will eventually be ruined by this same satanic ideology you endorse.
Currently on a call with a senior man I just met. He is based in Portugal.
He said Terem Moffi’s parents are so rich. Growing up , he only had the football to focus on.
But of course, he put in the work.
In 2002, my very first World Cup, I was in class when news broke out that Senegal had shocked France.
I knew Senegal from the 2000 and 2002 AFCONs. I knew France from Euro 2000. I didn't think too much about the Senegalese squad other than the colourful schedules my dad bought. They were a side on the up and had good players in the French League.
I knew Omar Daf. I knew Ferdinand Coly from Lens. He was teammates with Nigeria’s John Utaka and they'd played in the Champions League in 2002. I knew Tony Sylva. I knew El Hadj Diouf. He was Africa’s Player of the Year in the previous year. That Senegal result shocked the world.
Nigeria’s games weren't as interesting. I remember waking early to watch Gabriel Batistuta score a header against us. That was the game I knew Ariel Ortega. Argentina didn't go past the group stage, like Nigeria. England and Sweden did.
Sweden.
They had Henrikh Larsson, Freddie Ljunberg, and a very young Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Nigeria drew the first blood when both teams faced. Joseph Yobo’s cross to Julius Aghahowa. It was Nigeria’s only goal at that World Cup. Coincidentally, our only World Cup goal in 8 years because we missed the next.
England faced Nigeria in the final group game. That was the game Vincent Enyeama took his shirt as Nigeria’s #1. That shot he saved from Paul Scholes was hyped to the highest heavens by the global media.
Saudi getting mauled by Germany. I watched that. I saw goals pour in after goals. Devastating German efficiency.
Senegal vs Sweden. What a game! Do you remember it?
Those two Brazil vs Turkey fixtures. Turkey’s #11, Hassan Sas. Goalkeeper Rustu. #22 Umit Davala and his Mohawk. Ronaldo Nazario and his haircut that got the world talking. He came back from injury to destroy defenders at the World Cup. That Brazilian triple R of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo — death to defenders. How I wondered why Roque Junior was that black and why some Brazilians are black. I asked myself many questions.
That golden goal Turkey scored vs Senegal. Heart-wrenching. Shattering. Africa was silenced by that goal.
That final between Brazil and Germany. I remember how my father’s living room (parlour) was filled to the rafters. I got back from wherever I went to and almost had to snake through bodies to get in. I came early enough to see Ronaldo’s second goal.
That Rivaldo dummy never left my consciousness. It was special.
There were many games I watched fleetingly. Senegal vs Uruguay 3-3 draw. Premium entertainment. Those Costa Rica games.
Brazil vs Costa Rica 5-2. Paulo Wanchope. His name sounded like “wants to eat” in pidgin.
I enjoyed that World Cup.
I'll get on 2006 next.
🚨 EXCL: Arsenal have now agreed full personal terms with Jeremy Monga. Still work to be done on the mechanism of his exit as the English Champions want to close the deal.
As I understand it, Berta met with the English teen sensation’s entourage and laid out a pathway similar to that of Max Dowman at the club. A loan move for Monga cannot also be ruled out once the teenager is settled.
Monga has given full preference to Arsenal over multiple clubs including City & Leverkusen. Story W/ @scoutingindoors
This season, Viktor Gyökeres has:
▪️ Fired Sweden to their first World Cup qualification in more than 10 years
▪️ Helped Arsenal push win the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years
▪️ Guided Arsenal to their first Champions League final in 20 years
▪️ Netted 21 goals while registering 26 goal contributions in all competitions
Happy birthday to the Swedish striker, with the coldest celebration in the game. 🇸🇪🥶
