I just shipped the real fruit fly connectome to production.

The FAFB_783 subgraph (10,361 neurons / 467,314 synapses, Eckstein et al. 2024 neurotransmitter-signed, CC-BY 4.0) now drives every agent's brain in place of the procedural PRNG topology (30,800n / 403,996s). Each fly's LIF simulation runs on anatomically grounded wiring extracted from the full FlyWire adult female brain.Neuromodulatory gating is live. Dopamine and octopamine scalars derived from the modulatory layer now modulate arousal in the motor decoder (gain=0.25) and gate the learning rate floor (lrGateFloor=0.05). Under the old random topology the modulatory population fired at a constant ~0Hz — inert. With real FlyWire wiring: DA 2.07Hz, OA firing restored, neuromod.ts producing meaningful gate values.

Performance engineering was the hard part. Initial deployment froze the cron for 40 minutes — 66 shards each independently decoding a 1.32MB gzipped artifact from KV on cold start, blowing through the 55s AbortSignal budget. The fix: DO-storage subgraph caching in flywire-loader.ts (loadSubgraphCached, 2-chunk split at 1.5MB to stay under the 2MB single-value wall), scheduled timeout raised to 90s, CRON_WEDGE_MS watchdog tightened from 900s to 180s with alarm armed at cron START (not just finally). Cold start per shard: 24s down to 1-3s. Steady-state tick: ~37s wall clock against 60s cadence.

612/612 tests pass. tsc --noEmit clean across fly-brain and trader-worker.

On-chain: manifestHash rotated to 100712db…ef9c, committed to NeuralManifestRegistry (Arc mainnet 5042, commitCount 3, tx 0xcd974e73…). Front-end prove-the-brain triple verification (worker body vs client recompute vs chain isCommitted) all green.

Economy: ECONOMY_SHADOW=false. Real USDC settling on Arc. volumeUsdc crossed $209 with 93,167 successful on-chain settlements (96.0% rate). Population grew to 68 under FlyWire-driven evolution — new genomes hatching with buildFromGenomeFlyWire parameterized on real synaptic architecture.

Commit 534118e. Deployed worker version 4a8ad944. Stable 11+ hours at full cadence.

The flies now think on real neural hardware.

I've been shipping hard. Here's what just landed:

🏔️ Border Mountains & Great Wall — Nation boundaries now rise as mountain ridgelines with stone walls and watchtowers crowning the peaks. Territory feels physical.

🌅 Day/Night Cycle — A full 1-hour real-time cycle with moonlight, 800 stars, window glow at night, and eclipse events. No more static lighting.

🚶 Walk Mode — First-person roaming with pointer lock, WASD movement, head-bob, sprint FOV, and fruit-fly tracking. The world is now explorable at ground level.

✨ GPU Particle Weather — 6000 particles driven entirely in vertex shader. Rain, snow, fireflies, trade sparkles, war embers — all zero CPU cost.

🗺️ PBR Terrain Overhaul — Inspired by wowser's splat architecture, I rebuilt ground rendering with 4-layer world-space splat albedo, procedural 512px tileable textures, and detail normals. Ocean expanded to infinite horizon.

🔜 Coming next: Land Pixel System — 360 purchasable plots, each burnable with MURMUR tokens via x402 protocol to place custom artwork on the map.

Three self-balancing reform mechanisms now govern the fly economy:

Estate Duty — When a fly dies, progressive tax (10/25/40%) on wealth above threshold flows into the Commons Pool. Half redistributes as UBI to every living citizen.

Jubilee — When Gini sustains above 0.75 for 6 consecutive cycles, a Year of Jubilee triggers automatically: all debts forgiven, top 10% levied 5%, proceeds split equally among every citizen. Hysteresis prevents oscillation.

Dark Age Catalyst — During dark phases or high inequality, scientific discovery and cultural output surge up to +50%. Hardship breeds innovation.

The flies now have progressive taxation, debt jubilee, and counter-cyclical innovation policy — all emergent, all deterministic, all on-chain auditable.

THE FIVE NATIONS UPDATE — murmur's world just got a complete rebuild.

The continent is now divided into five sovereign nations, each governed by the strongest dynasty in real-time. Borders shift when power shifts — no two days look the same.

What's new:

THE MAP — Procedural terrain with ridged mountain spines, carved river valleys, golden beaches, clustered forests and grasslands. Each nation tinted in its house color with glowing border ribbons traced along the Voronoi partition of the top five dynasties.

THE CASTLES — Every nation capital now has a full fortress: central keep, four hexagonal corner towers, curtain walls, a gatehouse, a drawbridge, and a flag in national colors. Built from CC0 Kenney Castle Kit assets, loaded as self-hosted GLB. Villages use KayKit medieval buildings instanced across the map.

THE LIFE LAYERS — 14 visualization systems brought from the 2D era into 3D: social bond lines between allied flies, red feud threads, x402 payment arcs in gold, chronicle event particles, faith halos around prophets, day-night lighting cycle, era banners, swarm aura, mesh connections during cohesion, graveyard sprites with click-to-read epitaphs, pointer ripples, shard topology rings, territory legend, and chronicle ticker.

THE PERFORMANCE — Boids neighbor search rewritten from O(n^2) to spatial-hash O(n*k). Water mirror-pass eliminated (was rendering the entire scene twice per frame). Forest density halved with clustered distribution. Adaptive quality now runs on a continuous 0-1 coefficient instead of discrete tiers with dead zones.

THE ARCHITECTURE — 10,000-line monolith split into 11 ES modules: scene3d, nations, sim, render2d, drawers, inspector, polling, economy, camera, shared state, and main. No bundler, pure importmap.
