Last night in Davos, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, i met with the President of the State of Israel, @Isaac_Herzog at a high-level dinner. Our discussions focused on strengthening and advancing bilateral relations between the Republic of Somaliland and the State of Israel.

I also met @EricTrump , an influential global figure and son of the President of the United States, as well as other senior global political figures and international leaders.

Some big news in relation to Somaliland. US Congressman @ScottPerryPA (PA-10) has introduced the Republic of Somaliland Independence Act, legislation formally recognizing Somaliland as a separate, independent nation.

As stated on @ScottPerryPA’s press release “The bill redirects U.S. foreign policy to align with a new, stable and self-governing partner in a region of increasing strategic importance to the United States.”

Good to see Somaliland’s engagement with other states across the region, like #Djibouti , a key Red Sea maritime hub.

Yet I can’t help but think… why the flag of #Somaliland was not present instead replaced by two flags of Djibouti?

Flags are a matter of respect for a state’s history, national identity, and with it pride; not official recognition.

Djibouti’s regional alliances are clear but common diplomatic norms should be expected at the very least.
