This is an important and timely post. There's often pressure to clear and clean up fallen trees to make for 'tidy' gardens and parkland. We need to find a silver lining in these sad losses and leave fallen trees to maintain and create habitat.

It’s sad that when both English Heritage and National Trust teams are coping with some of the worst storm damage in memory to trees, nature and historic places, the Daily Telegraph is trying to sow discord between us. It won’t work: both charities enjoy strong public support.
