"There is no single playbook. Only better questions."
In her guest column, Moving Beyond the Playbook, featured in the latest edition of ILSS - India Leaders for Social Sector's 'Leadership Inspired', Roopa Kudva challenges conventional notions of leadership and reminds us that the most effective leaders are those who continue learning, reflecting, and evolving.
At a time when leaders across sectors are navigating increasing complexity while building institutions that can endure and create meaningful impact, Roopa reflects on the role of purpose, judgment, adaptability, trust, and continuous learning in leading through uncertainty.
Drawing on her experiences across business, investing, and institution building, she argues that leadership is not about following a prescribed formula, but about developing the awareness and judgment to make thoughtful choices in moments that matter.

My Terrifically Tiny Tale is a moment in The ILSS Emerging Women’s Leadership Program where each participant gets a few minutes to tell a story that holds a piece of who they are — their experiences, choices, turning points, learnings and the people and moments that have shaped their leadership journey.
On 19 September, Cohort 9 reached one of its milestones: My Terrifically Tiny Tale a week before the graduation from the program.
There were stories of finding your voice, setting boundaries, choosing yourself, embracing who you are, and finding the courage to be open and authentic.
There were forests, rivers, small unbending suns, powerful metaphors, laughter, tears and stories woven so fine that the chat was filled with: “WOW,” “You got this!”, “Go girl!”, “More power to you,” “I’m speechless,” and, of course, a whole lot of ❤️.
TTT reminded us once again that leadership journeys are made of both the big moments and the terrifically tiny tales we carry with us.
And sometimes, all it takes is a few minutes, a story, and a room full of people willing to listen.
