Since 1987, every presidential administration has produced a National Security Strategy (NSS), a public document outlining its approach to foreign policy. This first CCA of the 2026-2027 academic year will discuss the 2025 NSS issued by the Trump administration, including a consideration of the principles and history on which it is based.

As America marks 250 years of independence, this episode asks a timeless question: How should we think about the American Revolution?
Hear Christopher Flannery on the ideas, virtues, and enduring principles that gave birth to a free nation. Listen now.

As America approaches 250 years of independence, it’s worth reflecting on the extraordinary legacy left by the revolutionary generation. Their courage secured the blessings of liberty; our task is to understand, preserve, and live up to that inheritance.
Read "How to Think About the American Revolution" by Christopher Flannery in this special semiquincentennial issue.

Most Americans can quote a line or two from the Declaration of Independence. The remarkable thing is not the poetry. It is the argument.
Matthew Spalding joined me recently to discuss the founders' complaints against King George III, why some of those complaints mattered more than others, and what it meant for those men to risk everything by signing their names.
The Declaration teaches that free government depends upon certain truths about human nature and justice. Nearly 250 years later, it is still worth reading carefully.
I suppose politics is always like this, but today, just about any slander against anything traditional is acceptable. Even, or rather especially, the best established and polite of societies commit them.
One such slander recurrent in bad history is that Winston Churchill deliberately starved several million people in India during the Second World War. The slander was recently repeated in passing by Helen Cammock, whose work is being shown at Britain’s National Portrait Gallery.
The dispositive answer to the charge is given by historian and Churchill biographer Andrew Roberts, The Lord Roberts of Belgravia. Andrew has mastered the difficult task of writing history that is true and compelling. His letter is linked below. I commend it to you.
"A nation that forgets why it is free will not remain free for long."
Thanks, @Mike_Pence, for your comments in @amspectator on the education American citizens need.
"[I]nstitutions like Hillsdale College are leading the way, developing a K–12 curriculum that emphasizes the principles and history that have made America a beacon of hope to the world. Quietly and faithfully, many individual teachers in classrooms across the nation are doing the same."
@Hillsdale's American History and Civics Curriculum is available at no cost to any K-12 teacher or parent looking to provide students with a full account of our American past, and an introduction to the competing arguments that have been at play throughout our history.
