The 81st anniversary of liberation of The Hague with Mayor van Zanen & Prinses Irene Brigade, formed from troops who arrived in 🇬🇧 in May 1940 - based in Wolverhampton before returning to the Netherlands in 1944 (Operation Market Garden) & entering The Hague as liberators 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

I am in #Nijmegen today and paid my respects to those who rest at Jonkerbos war cemetery, including many who were killed in Operation Market Garden and the Battle of Nijmegen. Beautifully maintained by @CWGC and partners. @ukinnl 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

What a beautiful evening at historic Hotel de Wereld, Wageningen as we remembered those who were killed during the Second World War then watched as the Flame of Freedom was lit in the presence of incredible veterans including 103 year old Robbie Hall @ukinnl 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

On this 🇳🇱 National Remembrance Day, I joined the Mayor of #Vught & the local community to remember & honour the many victims of Kamp Vught, the Nazi concentration and transportation camp. We walked slowly through the forest to the monument and stood in silence. @ukinnl 🇬🇧

On the 🇳🇱 National Day of Remembrance, honoured to join Mayor Buma, @AusAmbNL the local community & family members as we remember the seven aircrew of RAF Halifax W1220 that crashed near #Jelsum in 1942. All seven British & Australian crew members were killed @ukinnl 🇬🇧 🇳🇱 🇦🇺

One of my favourite cities in the Netherlands, #Deventer on the IJssel. Much of the iconic 1977 movie A Bridge Too Far, telling the story of the Battle of Arnhem, was filmed in Deventer as the Wilhelmina Bridge closely resembled the Arnhem Rhine Bridge in 1944. @ukinnl 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

Final stop on this beautiful week in Groningen & Friesland provinces is Holwerd in north Friesland where five aircrew rest, one British and four from New Zealand. @ukinnl @CWGC 🇬🇧 🇳🇱 🇳🇿

I first visited Wierum three years ago. This small village in north Friesland is situated right under the dyke & many sailors from the village have been lost to the sea. Three airmen from the Second World War, two Canadian and one British, rest there @ukinnl @CWGC 🇬🇧 🇳🇱 🇨🇦

Sometimes a family chooses to fund a private memorial rather than the traditional @CWGC headstone. This one in the village of #Uithuizen remembers RAF pilot Bill Pryor who was just 21 years old when killed in August 1940. An only child whose loss was clear @ukinnl @ogsnl 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

A bell with history, humour and meaning. 🔔🇬🇧🇺🇸

At the White House State Dinner, His Majesty King Charles III presented President Trump with the original bell from HMS Trump, a British submarine launched in 1944 during the Second World War.

Once hung on the submarine’s conning tower, the polished brass bell stands as a reminder of our nations’ shared wartime history and enduring alliance.

As His Majesty said: “May it stand as a testimony to our nations’ shared history and shining future. And should you ever need to get hold of us, well, just give us a ring!”

From history to partnership, the UK/US relationship continues to ring true.
