The HCPS Back to School Safely group, which includes educators and parents, is circulating a petition to Henrico Superintendent Amy Cashwell and the school board, opposing plans to return to school in a few weeks.

With #COVID19 cases surging, Virginia Education Association President James J. Fedderman today called for public schools that have not already done so to shift to all-virtual instruction until school staff members have been vaccinated. Watch Here ⬇️

They have repeatedly stated that if the rates were high, schools would close. The rates are high, yet schools are opening. We advocate for schools to remain virtual through second semester or until all members of the HCPS family are vaccinated. Further actions will be forthcoming
Open Safe Henrico strongly disagrees with the county’s decision to continue with in person learning. We are currently living through the worst surge in the pandemic: Numbers are skyrocketing, hospitals are at capacity, and two new variants have been detected.
The plan put forth by the county is unjustifiable, putting the lives of faculty, staff, and students at great risk. Furthermore, the county earlier established the metrics, which they would use to assess reopening.
NEW: HCPS is adjusting the timeline for the expansion of in-person learning until January. Swipe the graphics for headlines. Full parent message here: https://t.co/zuqig5XQdR
I've confirmed that Henrico Schools' Central Office is closed today, after someone who was last in the building Friday tested positive for COVID-19. The building is being disinfected and will reopen tomorrow, as employees who had been working from the building work virtually.
Many comments at the meeting about teachers not teaching. I see you HCPS staff, your work ethic and your drive! Thank you for working HARD these last 9 weeks. Y’all are amazing.
