Today the library hosted its first Scottish themed lunchtime to support the @HCJuniorSchool Burns Bonanza month!
Pupils could
- Make unicorns
- Complete Scottish animal jigsaws
- Draw what a glisk was
- Answer the question - what is your favourite Scottish animal?
For the past few weeks, learners from #hamiltonj4 all the to #hamiltons4 have been busy making Book Angels and Trees in the library - using books that were damaged/unloved.
Here is one of our J4 pupils proudly showing off her angel after five lunchtimes of dedicated folding!

For @BookWeekScot this year we launched our Junior School Reading Challenge- this year with the theme of Adventure!
Pupils complete the challenge and bring in a map circle with their name on it. This then gets displayed in our Reading Tree in the library.
The latest batch of children's and YA fiction to go to our staff room!
This will allow staff to access contemporary and interesting children's books and is a great way to find the next favourite read!

This week our #hamiltonj2 read the brilliant book Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell.
They learned about the life cycle of pumpkins and will be seeing what happens as Pumpkin Melvil goes through his own life cycle!
This week our #hamiltonj5 started their Information Skills Olympics - four weeks of practising key information skills. All the pupils worked really hard on the tasks and used the traffic light cups to show when they needed some help.

Our October Break started with a #readinglunchtime for our #juniorschool pupils.
Lots of pupils enjoyed a hot chocolate while reading a book - and some of the #hamiltonj5 even read to the #hamiltonj1 pupils so that everyone could enjoy a book and some delicious hot chocolate!
Our #hamiltonj1 have been voting on which book to read in the library and they picked one of Mrs Lane's favourites - The Littlest Yak by @_lufraser and Kate Hindley.
Pupils used a grid to design their own pattern for Getie's hat!
As part of their Dystopian Fiction lessons our #hamiltontransitus pupils learned about the food pyramid in order to decide what food they would take.
They worked in expert groups to learn about one area and then in groups of four to decide what food to take.
#groupwork
Today our #hamiltonj3 had a slothfully good day!
They:
- voted on which book to read (and picked the fab Super Sloth by @robstarlingart )
- had a sloth relay race to find facts and opinions about sloths and
- played a sloth pair game
Two of our #hamiltonj2 showing off their drawing skills at the library at lunchtime.
The library is open at lunchtimes and pupils can read, look for new books, draw and take part in various activities!
For JS it is open Tues, Wed and Fri
and SS it is open Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs
Today our #hamiltonj2 learned why you shouldn't bring your dragon to the library and discussed other (maybe more useful!) library rules.
They then created these rawr-some upcycled dragons that will be used to display the library rules!
Shhh! The library is all quiet after a fantastic first Friday back! Two brilliant lessons today and lots of new books issued.
#hamiltonj3 read the Story Thief by Graham Carter - one of Mrs Lane's favourite picture books while #hamiltons1 created their own Reading Challenge.
Happy First Day of Term!
Dewey and Mrs Lane are looking forward to another exciting year in the library; building on the work and projects from last year that meant we achieved Reading School status! #readingschools
On Friday our brave #hamiltonj3 help Mrs Lane defeat Evil Pea by taking part in a #supertato escape room!
They worked well in their groups to complete each task and were rewarded with TWO Supertato Read-Alouds!
Last night was our second meeting of our Book Club and one of our #hamiltons2 pupils did a great job leading the discussion and while Mrs Lane disagreed with the placement of some genres on the pyramid she loved the discussion that this fab task provoked
