Maryland’s immigration reform bills passed! 🎉 Despite the governor’s best efforts to thwart immigrant protections, the vetoes of the #DignityNotDetention and #DriverPrivacyAct were overridden. Thank you to all who helped CASA fight for this tremendous victory. #OverrideTheVetoes
.@CBP agents on horses are running after Haitians in Del Rio with lariats. Why? Because they are seeking asylum. @Secmayorkas, @potus, seeking asylum is legal! Stop all expulsion flights now. #ImmigrationIsABlackIssue
BREAKING: York County is ending its agreement with ICE to detain people at its jail. The Biden administration must now release those who remain there so that they can be home while their immigration cases proceed.

BREAKING NEWS: York County will be ending its contract with ICE and closing down its facility! Major victory for the immigrant community in York 🎉This wouldn't have happened without the constant advocacy from out CASA members!

MASK OFF: Gov. Hogan just vetoed the Dignity Not Detention Act, my bill to ban ICE detention centers in Maryland. Hogan plays a "moderate" on MSNBC, but has never been a friend to our immigrant neighbors.
I look forward to the General Assembly overriding this veto next session.
Larry Hogan's vetoes today are typical of an increasingly extremist Republican party. Defending a broken, punitive immigration system. Doubling down on mass incarceration and the drug war. Rejecting a transparent, equitable parole process.
Now add your name to this petition to stand in support and solidarity with the inmates suffering these abuses and demand justice!

The notion that HoCo and its gov. is immune to 'national' problems was also the argument made to support the contract with ICE, however, even Trump's DHS disagreed with that argument. https://t.co/r4HvJ2dPPa
Ending the ICE contract was unpopular among Dems who're loyal to @HoCoGovExec when he was opposed to it. And when he changed his stance, some of the same people turned into supporters of #HB16. Makes you wonder if this is about loyally to some elected or protecting immigrants.
As members of a Coalition who fought hard to put an end to the ICE contract and faced @HoCoGovExec's efforts to sabotage our struggle, we're thankful for those Democrats who dared to support our cause. It takes a lot of decency and courage to be independent in HoCo nowadays.
Our gratitude also goes to @LizWalshHoCoD1 who sponsored #CB51 last Sept to cancel HoCo's contract with ICE. Undoubtedly that bill (passed in county council but immediately vetoed by @HoCoGovExec ) added crucial momentum to the eventual ending of the ICE contract in the county.
HB16, the Dignity Not Detention bill, just passed 86-46 and heads to the Governor. THIS IS AN AMAZING WIN! Thank you @DelegateStewart@Willcsmithjr for sponsoring this bill, and to @WanikaFisher for your work in adding strengthening lang. from HB304. #MGDA21 🥳
