Ryukyu Kajika Frog is the @AmphibiaWeb species of the week!
Features my recent study with @XEBernal examining the functions of synchronized mating calls in these incredible animals.
Synchronized songs - Like other species, Japanese Ryukyu Kajika Frog males overlap their mating calls.
Legett et al. (2021) found that females aren't turned off by the
noisy hubbub. The multiple male melody decreases parasite and predator risk.

Warm temps this week have put #riverherring season round 2 into full swing. Check out this clip of river herring, likely blueback herring, spawning at our downstream antenna. We tagged 100 fish this week and hope to track them as they move upstream and past old #BloedeDam.
Beautiful day to wrap up @HDLegett temperature logger deployments! We are monitoring water temperature in 3 major #chesbay tributaries (Patapsco, Choptank, Rappahannock) this spring during the #riverherring spawning run. #fieldwork
Recent @ASNAmNat paper with @XEBernal and @cthemingway12 is featured in Science News!
