"Sound has always been important to me," said our founder, George Lucas, who celebrates his birthday today. "I'm a firm believer that it's 50% of the experience, and it's the neglected 50%. I've always made a practice of putting great deal of effort and creativity into my soundtracks, and hiring my sound editors before we start shooting the picture." That philosophy continues to inspire everything about our work here at Skywalker Sound. Happy Birthday, George, and thank you!

The first use of “May the Fourth Be With You” within Lucasfilm came from none other than Randy Thom, Skywalker Sound’s director of sound design. Back in 1982, Thom was a sound recordist on location for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in the Northern California redwoods. Arriving on set the morning of May 4, he happily assembled the pun in his head, and greeted none other than George Lucas and Harrison Ford with it! Here is Thom (right) during the Jedi production with fellow members of the production sound team David Parker (left) and Jim Manson.
Check out this interview with the wonderful guys behind #Omaha which I sound designed. At the very end of the podcast there’s even a lot of kind things said about yours truly. Thanks so much to @NextBestPicture for supporting this film. Much appreciated ❤️
