@gmjochum @hsiemens Excellent question. Was a sad attempt to please the neighbours 🇺🇸 down south. A show of standing shoulder to shoulder with a friend, only to discover our friend was really not as into the friendship as we thought. I believe the saying is : we were left holding the bag!

@FoodProfessor @Michaelandre259 Tools are there. So either Eastern Milk Pool (P5) needs to modernize its rules, or the producers in question are not utilizing what is available to them by choice.

@FoodProfessor @Michaelandre259 If dumping milk on a regular basis, the issue lies with on farm management choices, not Supply Management. In Western Milk Pool you have a 5 day forward and 15 day back sleeve, beyond your quota to manage your production. Plus monthly credit exchange to purchase temporary room.

@Michaelandre259 @FoodProfessor Have been a Canadian Dairy producer for over 35 yrs. Have only dumped milk 2 times in 35 yrs. 1) was during a 3 day MB blizzard when Milk trucks were unable to pick up for 4 days. 2) start of Covid when DFM applied brakes over night. Dumping NOT the norm under Supply Mgt.

@kowalchukfarms1 The are plans to build a 31,000 cow dairy farm in North Dakota. Then Gov. Bergen (now Sec. of Interior) change laws and gave tax incentives to facilitate. Where do you think that milk is destined for?? Think 🇨🇦! SM on USA hit list for a reason. Announced last year, look it up.

@SharonDanley @FoodProfessor The reason for compensation package due to trade deals, was the market did not not shrink, part of it was now reserved for non Canadian production, as a trade off to gain access to foreign markets for other Canadian goods. Dairy gave so others could potentially gain.

@SharonDanley @FoodProfessor You forgot the paragraph about what happens when market shrinks, or is lost. Then quota’s are rolled back, without compensation. Even quota bought on the monthly exchange, can be taken away in same month you purchased, leaving you to pay for quota you never get use of.

@FoodProfessor Professor this is one issue you and I can agree 100% on. And for all who are “X-ing”, NO THIS WAS NOT DONE FOR THE FARMERS.
Light earlier in the day works for us. It means hay & crops are dry during working hours, less after hours time and a half charges on breakdowns!
