Pastor: I saw ICE agents circling a young woman who appeared to be Hispanic. I said to this ICE agent, 'Take me, stop harassing her.' The agent got in my face, pointed a gun at me, and said, 'Are you afraid now?' To which I said, 'I am not afraid.' The next thing I knew, they were putting handcuffs on me, and they put me in the back of an SUV. I asked them if I was under arrest. They said to me, 'Well, you're white, you won't be any fun anyway.'
Actor Hugh Bonneville on the “abomination” that is Israel's ban on aid organisations in Palestine:
"I call on all in my community, and that includes you, to speak up"

Finally caught the Wellcome Collection’s Thirst: In Search of Fresh Water exhibition, specially for the section on the #OrangSeletar in #Johor: how they must cope with pollution, development and being cut off from fishing/foraging in #Singapore waters. I thought it was terrific
We also want to remind our listeners that Gaza has for many centuries been a centre of learning and high culture; was once famous for its wine, its pleasures and its Dionysian festivals; that it is a place of great wealth as the terminus of the Arabian incense route; and a city where people have lived and loved for many millennia.
Hate has never built a single bridge, cured a single disease, or lifted a single child out of poverty
Yet, we allow it to masquerade as policy
History shows us, Societies which embrace inclusivity don’t just succeed, they lead
To everyone making a difference

On 5th July this year, Palestine Action was proscribed after a vote in Parliament invoking the Terrorism Act 2000.
Since then, police have made over 2,700 arrests for peacefully protesting. These arrests are unlawful.
Amnesty UK has intervened in the Judicial Review in the courts and over 130,000 Amnesty supporters have called on the UK government to stop the prosecution of peaceful protestors.

It's one of the best sketches I've ever seen, it is so accurate and highlights the situation in Palestine.
Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries:
“It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.
“There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion.
“If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the ‘medicine closet’ and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That’s why you should always have a nutrition choice!
“Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity.”

China–US great-power rivalry is deepening, while political polarisation within Western societies is eroding their ability to build consensus and act collectively. https://t.co/VfJuLTgAJ9
My column: When Social Media Reshapes Public Power — If Reform were to enter government, its political visibility and public narrative may increasingly be shaped via transatlantic platforms such as X, rather than the UK’s traditional media ecosystem. https://t.co/z6uODd49PJ
My column European Visits to China and Europe’s Strategic Dilemma: as China replaces Russia as the US’s main strategic competitor, Europe is no longer Washington’s automatic ally. European visits to China reflect pragmatic, realist multilateral diplomacy. https://t.co/srK8g8mgZx
"Palestine is a word as old as literacy itself."
As we reflect on some of our most fascinating conversations of 2025, this insight from @DalrympleWill, speaking live to @AyoCaesar, remains one to remember.
