PRESS RELEASE
NANS CALLS FOR URGENT RESOLUTION OF NUC-SURCON ACCREDITATION DISCREPANCIES, URGES PROTECTION OF AFFECTED STUDENTS
I have received several complaints and concerns from students of Surveying and Geo-informatics at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), regarding the uncertainty surrounding the accreditation and professional recognition of their programme.
As the apex representative body of Nigerian students, I consider this situation a matter that deserves urgent attention, particularly because the students affected are the ones ultimately exposed to the consequences of any unresolved regulatory disagreement.
I understand that there are existing differences regarding the respective roles of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) in relation to academic accreditation, professional standards and the regulation of Surveying programmes.
However, whatever discrepancies may exist between these regulatory bodies must not be allowed to create uncertainty for students who have already committed several years of their lives, resources and academic efforts to their chosen profession. Students should not be made to suffer for disagreements between these bodies.
The National Universities Commission and the Surveyors Council of Nigeria are important regulatory and professional bodies with responsibilities that affect the quality, credibility and professional relevance of education in Nigeria. It is therefore imperative that both bodies engage constructively and urgently with a view to resolving whatever issues exist between them.
A student who enrolled in a programme approved and offered by a recognised university should not suddenly be left uncertain about the status of that programme or the implications of the regulatory process for his or her future career.
Therefore, we call on the National Universities Commission and the Surveyors Council of Nigeria to urgently sit together and resolve their differences in the best interest of Nigerian students.
Furthermore, we call for clear and timely communication to the affected students and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, so that students can have certainty regarding the status of their programme, their academic progression and their professional future.
As the apex student representative body, we will continue to stand firmly for the protection of the rights, welfare and interests of Nigerian students.
Therefore, we urge the NUC and SURCON to place the interests of the students at the centre of their engagement and urgently arrive at a sustainable resolution.

The maiden edition of Tech Fest BOUESTI was an incredible experience!
As the Keynote Speaker, I had the privilege of engaging an amazing audience of students, innovators, creatives, and aspiring builders on the topic: “Storytelling Meets Tech: How Modern Media Powers the Next Generation of Builders.”
What made the session particularly remarkable was the energy in the room. It was not just a presentation; it was an engaging, interactive, and thought-provoking conversation. From busting the myths around technology to exploring the power of modern media and storytelling, the audience brought their questions, perspectives, and enthusiasm.
We challenged the notion that tech is only about coding, websites, and software development, highlighting the place of photography, videography, graphic design, content creation, broadcasting, and other creative skills in the technology ecosystem.
Most importantly, we explored how the next generation of builders can leverage storytelling to communicate their ideas, attract opportunities, build communities, and create meaningful impact.
I left the session deeply encouraged by the curiosity, confidence, and possibilities represented in that room.
To the organisers of Tech Fest BOUESTI, the students, and everyone who participated, thank you for making this experience memorable.
Don’t just build. Document. Tell. Connect. Impact. 🎤
