Today, myself, alongside the Chairman of the PDP Strategy and Way Forward Reconciliation Committee, Senator @bukolasaraki , and Senator @iamHSDickson, were in Enugu.
Our visit is in preparation for the upcoming NEC meeting and the crucial National Convention scheduled for August in Kano.
We remain committed to fostering unity, dialogue, and a rancor-free environment within our party, in line with the mandate of our committee.
We were warmly received by His Excellency, Peter Mbah, whose support and leadership are vital as we work towards strengthening our party and ensuring a peaceful, inclusive transition.
Attending the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has sharpened our focus on enhancing the legislative process. The General Debate on "Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice" serves as a crucial platform for exchanging insights and best practices with our global counterparts, fostering collaboration and understanding among nations.
Through our active engagement in these discussions, we aim to develop innovative policies that effectively address pressing social challenges and promote equity in our country. By leveraging the diverse experiences and expertise of participants, we can identify successful strategies that have been implemented elsewhere, tailoring them to fit our unique context.
STATEMENT BY H.E.SEN IBRAHIM H. DANKWAMBO, CHAIRMAN, SENATE COMMITTEE ON DRUGS AND NARCOTICS, ON THE COMMISSIONING OF THE FIRST NDLEA BARRACKS IN YOLA
I extend my sincere commendation to the leadership of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for achieving a significant milestone with the commissioning of the agency’s first ever barracks in Yola, Adamawa State. This development is a testament to the commitment to enhancing the welfare, security, and operational efficiency of NDLEA personnel who serve at the frontline of our nation’s battle against drug abuse and trafficking.
For 35 years, NDLEA officers have worked tirelessly, often under challenging conditions, to protect communities from the devastating effects of illicit drugs. The provision of this modern barracks is not just an infrastructural investment it is a long overdue step in ensuring their safety, boosting their morale, and reinforcing their capacity to carry out their vital duties. A secure and well motivated workforce is essential for an effective drug enforcement strategy, and this initiative aligns perfectly with that objective.
I particularly commend the leadership of NDLEA, under Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his visionary stewardship in driving reforms that have strengthened the agency’s effectiveness. The support of the Federal Government in bringing this project to fruition is equally noteworthy, as it underscores the importance of investing in security and law enforcement infrastructure for national stability.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, I reaffirm my steadfast commitment to supporting NDLEA in its mandate. The Senate will continue to advocate for policies and budgetary allocations that enhance the agency’s capabilities, ensuring that its personnel have the resources and support necessary to execute their duties effectively.
This commissioning marks a step forward in our collective fight against drug-related crimes. I encourage NDLEA officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and dedication, knowing that their sacrifices are recognized and valued. Together, we will continue to build a safer, healthier, and drug-free Nigeria.

We convened to discuss the day's agenda, acknowledging the vital role of the legislature in strengthening democracy. Our focus is on fostering accountability, promoting transparency, and shaping policies that reflect the aspirations of our citizens, ultimately driving meaningful change.
The other day, we were in Accra, Ghana, for the 2nd General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures. Our Nigerian delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, received a warm welcome from Nigeria's Ambassador to Ghana, Adeoye Moses, and the Chief Whip of the Ghana Parliament, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza. This presents an exciting opportunity to engage with fellow leaders and discuss crucial legislative matters.
